Glenn Beck Asks Tucker Carlson To Join The Blaze On His Radio Show

0

After Tucker Carlson departed from Fox News, Glenn Beck, the founder of Blaze Media and a nationally syndicated radio host, informally offered him employment. Beck mentioned during a recent show that he and Carlson had become friends over the years and expressed his desire to have Carlson working for his company.

“We would love to have you here. You won’t miss a beat. And together, the two of us will tear it up. Just tear it up,” said Beck.

Earlier this week, Beck stated that Carlson’s departure would put the network in a difficult position.

“I think that will kill Fox. I do,” said Beck. “I know so many people that, you know, still like Fox. And they watch the other shows. But they’re like, Tucker, Tucker is the only one I trust. You lose Tucker Carlson, and I think that kills them. Hey, have I reminded you to join TheBlaze?”

Dominion Voting Systems settled with Fox News after accusing the network and its prominent hosts, including Tucker Carlson, of spreading false information about the company regarding the 2020 Presidential election.

According to Beck’s co-host, Stu Burguiere, Tucker Carlson vehemently refuted accusations of voter fraud by stating, “You have brought me no evidence. We keep asking you for evidence, and you will not bring it!” Carlson even called out Sidney Powell on her lack of evidence.

Burguiere expressed his interest in the possibility of Carlson joining The Blaze by stating, “That would be fascinating. I’m sure many people will attempt to make that happen.”

Doug Gottlieb: If Stephen A. Smith Were on a Regional Network, No One Would Watch

0

L.A. Clippers star Kawhi Leonard was noticeably absent from the final three games of the team’s first-round playoff series against the Phoenix Suns this week after having suffered what was later revealed to be a torn meniscus in his right knee.

Leonard scored 31 points over 39 minutes of playing time in Game 2 of the series on April 16 but was shut down after team medical staff discovered the knee injury. The Suns would go on to win the series in five games.

ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith commented about Leonard’s absence on First Take on Wednesday following the Clippers’ elimination, saying among other points that because Leonard finished Game 2 and didn’t appear injured walking off the court, it was surprising to learn later that Kawhi was actually hurt. Smith said Kawhi is never healthy when it counts and that the player’s personal medical team influences when Leonard actually suits up for games.

FOX Sports Radio host Doug Gottlieb said Stephen A. danced around what he actually wanted to say.

“He thinks the guy ain’t hurt, that he could play. He thinks he’s a pussy,” Gottlieb said on his In the Bonus podcast. “That’s what he thinks.”

Doug said this wasn’t a case of Smith giving his honest take on the story.

“This is performance art,” he said. “Going on and making yourself the story instead of the actual story which is: I can’t believe the Clippers’ two best players are hurt again. That’s the story. There is no other story.”

“If he had this exact same presentation and message on a regional sports network, no one would ever watch,” Gottlieb later added. “He benefits from the fact that he’s on ESPN.”

Doug felt like Stephen A. went on such a tangent that he didn’t really make a valid point.

“He said nothing except saying something f–king stupid, which he basically alludes to he doesn’t think he’s hurt, he thinks the medical team that Kawhi has doesn’t do a good job, and he’s really healthy and they’re telling him not to play,” he said. “And because he didn’t see him get hurt, how can he believe that he’s hurt? I mean that’s all dumb, dumb shit.”

Howard Eskin Says He Will Retire if Eagles Draft Bijan Robinson

0

The NFL Draft officially begins Thursday, and the defending NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles will make two selections in the first round. The first pick comes at number 10 and then the second is at number 30.

The Eagles managed to secure a top-10 pick in this year’s draft thanks to the New Orleans Saints, setting the Eagles up nicely to add another quality piece to the roster.

So who will the Eagles select at 10th overall? WIP host Howard Eskin hopes and believes the team doesn’t take Texas running back Bijan Robinson.

Eskin joined Jon Marks and Ike Reese on Wednesday to talk about it, and Eskin doubled down on a proposition.

“If they draft Bijan Robinson at number 10, I will retire,” Eskin said. “And it will be longer than the 1 minute and 23 seconds that Ray Diddinger retired. And I love Ray.”

Howard feels like in today’s NFL, the running game has become secondary to the passing game, thus making the decision to take a running back at number 10 not the best value.

“You don’t run to win games,” he said. “There’s more value in other picks.”

Eskin added that if the Eagles were to trade out of 10 down to say 16 or 17, taking a running back is a choice that is up in the air. But he felt like the smarter choice would be to select an offensive or defensive lineman.

“If you don’t have good players on the offensive or defensive line, you’re gonna win squat, nada, nothing,” he said.

This is not the first ultimatum Eskin has thrown down regarding the number ten pick. Last week, he told Marks & Reese that if the Eagles use the pick on Northwestern tackle Peter Skoronski, he will make a $500 donation to the Eagles Autism Challenge.

DraftKings to Launch Streaming Video Service

DraftKings will soon be launching a free video streaming service.

Reporting from Bloomberg on Wednesday cited sources familiar with what’s going on. The platform will be ad-supported and consist of content from podcasts the company sponsors.

DraftKings is partnered with Meadowlark Media, the company started by former ESPN president John Skipper and host Dan Le Batard, as well as with radio and podcast giant iHeartMedia.

DraftKings also acquired VSiN in 2021, which has its own dedicated video content. Former ESPN exec Stacie McCollum is the vice president of content.

The service is expected to make its debut in the next few weeks.

Judge’s Decision Reveals All Media Proposals For NFL Sunday Ticket

0

There are new details about the companies that had active discussions with the NFL about acquiring the league’s Sunday Ticket package.

A class-action lawsuit was filed and decided in federal court against the NFL regarding Sunday Ticket, and the magistrate judge’s ruling made public details about discussions the league had and with which third parties.

In court documents, Google, Amazon, Apple, Roku and ESPN were all noted to have submitted proposals regarding rights to Sunday Ticket. Ultimately Google and the NFL came together on a $2.1 billion deal.

The plaintiffs in the lawsuit, seeking $6 billion in damages from the league, also asked for information about why discussions with Apple broke down. Apple was believed to be the frontrunner to take over Sunday Ticket from DirecTV.

“Public reporting suggests the negotiations broke down because the NFL refused to let Apple distribute local games or offer Sunday Ticket at significantly lower prices,” magistrate judge John McDermott wrote in his opinion. “The NFL, however, argues that documents it has produced suggest numerous reasons why the negotiations failed. None of the reasons cited by (the) NFL and Apple contained any reference to Sunday Ticket package pricing.”

While the companies above were noted to have submitted proposals, the ruling doesn’t reveal which proposals became actual bids. Though clearly Google bid on and won the package.

The NFL always could have distributed Sunday Ticket itself as an option if negotiations with third parties fell apart. The plan all along would’ve been to have Sunday Ticket on NFL+.

Joe Ovies, Joe Giglio Out at 99.9 The Fan

99.9 The Fan is making a change in afternoon drive. Joe Ovies took to Twitter Wednesday to announce that he and partner Joe Giglio had been let go three years after their show, The OG, was launched.

“Today was the last edition of ‘The OG’ and the end of 13.5 years at The Fan,” Ovies wrote. “@giglio_OG and I did some really great stuff in just over 3 years of the show. Thanks for making us part of your routines.”

Giglio came to the station in 2020 from The News Observer in Raleigh. Capital Broadcasting, which owns 99.9 The Fan, had said at the time that the plan was to use him to cover NC State sports for both radio and television.

Ovies had been with Capital Broadcasting since the company acquired 850 The Buzz in 2009 and merged it with 99.9 The Fan. He was initially partnered with Adam Gold. Gold moved to middays when The OG launched.

As for 99.9 The Fan, Ovies told Barrett Sports Media that all he was told was that the station was going in a “new direction.” The new plan for afternoon drive is a “single host show with a producer.” No other details are available at this time.

Amazon Announces Season 2 of Coach Prime on Pat McAfee Show

0

Will Deion Sanders bring reality TV-style presentations to sports broadcasts? Ryan Brown asked that question earlier this week in his BSM column. The answer remains to be seen, but Sanders’s own reality show, Coach Prime, is here to stay.

Pat McAfee read a press release Wednesday on his show saying that Amazon had green-lit season 2. It is in production right now.

Deion Sanders was a guest on The Pat McAfee Show today. Both men acknowledged they only learned the news moments before Sanders connected.

The Colorado Buffaloes have been in the news a lot this week. The team’s spring game was one of the most-watched in ESPN’s history. It was followed by a mass exodus of players, who entered the transfer portal.

Sanders says the beauty of Coach Prime is that it holds everyone accountable. The production crew is filming the good and the bad.

“That’s what I mean when I say to people ‘I keep receipts.’ There’s cameras everywhere, man,” he said. “There’s a camera everywhere, so we’re gonna show it.”

McAfee marveled at the power that sports documentary series have proven to have on streaming services. He told Sanders that Coach Prime is following in the footsteps of Drive to Survive, so it isn’t unreasonable to think Colorado football could enjoy the same benefits Formula 1 Racing did.

“People learning more about your program makes them like it and respect it and appreciate it more. It’s only going to do good things for Colorado,” McAfee said.

Courtney Cox: Sean McDonough ‘Only Endearing Part’ of NHL on ESPN

0

Sean McDonough has had a long, storied career as a play-by-play broadcaster on the national level. WEEI’s Courtney Cox believes he’s one of the only good things about the NHL on ESPN.

During The Greg Hill Show Wednesday, Cox argued that ESPN’s analysts don’t mesh well together, and that leads to an uncomfortable feeling while watching.

“Ugh, it’s brutal,” Cox said. “Sean’s the only endearing part of it.”

“P.K. (Subban)’s great, but the other two (Mark Messier and Chris Chelios)? They’re like, my mom used to say, boobs on a bull. Useless,” said Jermaine Wiggins of the network’s studio analysts.

“They’re just low energy, and P.K is trying to appeal to a younger audience, and I get it. He’s really trying, but they’re trying to get him to do all these technical things where he’s drawing on screens. Nothing’s ever working, so whoever’s producing it needs to get that figured out,” Cox continued. “Then he’s trying to make jokes and the other guys are just ‘meh’.”

“‘We’re trying to talk hockey here, P.K., not be entertaining’,” Wiggins said as he impersonated Messier and Chelios.”

Wiggins then argued that a pairing of P.K. Subban and TNT’s Paul Bissonnette would be wildly entertaining. He then added that Subban is trying to work under the same guise as Inside the NBA, but Chelios and Messier are not willing participants.

The topic came up after Wiggins joked to McDonough that Chelios and Messier “need a little bit more energy” during an interview with the ESPN hockey voice.

However, Hill argued that the NHL broadcasts on the Worldwide Leader are much better than the local games.

“The ESPN broadcast, in my mind, leap years ahead of the NESN broadcast,” Hill countered. “Let me remove Andy Brickley from that discussion. Brick? Chef’s kiss. I can’t take Jake (Edwards) anymore.”

Kyle Long: I’ve Learned About My Brother Through Green Light Podcast

0

It’s not often that you get to work with family in the sports media business, but Kyle Long gets to work with his brother Chris when he appears on Chris’s Green Light podcast. While the brothers are different people, they have a lot of fun working together.

Kyle was a guest on the GoJo podcast with Mike Golic Jr. and Brandon Newman this week and he said while he is learning to adjust to the way Chris runs the show, they end up having a lot of laughs when they are on the show together every week.

“My executive functions aren’t as honed as his. He’s really well-versed in being a head of a charity, a captain on a football team. Chris was a captain, he was the number two pick, he was the face of UVA (Virginia) when he was there. These are things that I never was.

“Chris runs Green Light. He runs the deal. He’s got a process and I’m learning to adjust to it. We have so much fun and we are growing together on Green Light. Every time I go on there, I leave and I’m like ‘Was that the hardest we’ve laughed?’ He said ‘Yeah, I’ll see you next week’. It will be great. I enjoy doing it with him, we are a lot different.”

One of the things that Kyle appreciates about Chris is that while they can have fun together, Chris is able to talk about things with him from a business perspective as well.

“We go to Montana every summer and I remember Chris pulled me aside and he was wearing a hat he had never worn before. He was my boss in that conversation. It makes it clear that I have to put on a different hat here, too. We are cosplaying as businessmen. I am glad that we have a relationship such that he can talk to me in that way and be honest with me.

“Then, the veil is lifted when we are in the studio and it’s unfiltered Chris, unfiltered me. You see us have disagreements on air, we talk over each other. It’s real. That’s the cool thing.”

Kyle mentioned that one of the things he wants to emulate from his brother is how Chris prepares for the show and how much film that he watches before recording his show.

“You learn a lot about people when you work with them…You can learn a lot from working with somebody on a podcast. I realized that Chris is way, way, way more prepared than I am. He watches way more football than I do. He really grinds film and it’s something I need to work on. That became more obvious working in studio with him.”
