Angelo Cataldi Set To Sign Off WIP On Friday

0

The end of the Angelo Cataldi era at WIP in Philadelphia is coming on Friday, February 17.

The Philadelphia Inquirer confirmed reporting from the Philadelphia Business Journal on Tuesday that Cataldi, 71, will call it career at the end of the week.

In October, Angelo Cataldi said he would call it quits at the conclusion of the Eagles’ 2022 season. That conclusion came on Sunday in Super Bowl LVII.

Listeners tuning in for the final Cataldi broadcast can expect to hear from plenty of old favorites in addition to a career retrospective on one of the top sports radio voices in Philadelphia history.

Joe DeCamara and Jon Ritchie are set to take over the morning show at WIP following Cataldi’s departure. A new midday show featuring Joe Giglio and former Eagle Hugh Douglas will also launch.

IndieWire Suggests Disney Trade ESPN to Comcast For Full Control of Hulu

0

Just over a year since NBCSN went off the air, there’s a belief that NBCUniversal owner Comcast could potentially be in the market to take over ownership of ESPN.

In a piece for IndieWire, Tony Maglio and Brian Welk write that among the options Disney CEO Bob Iger could consider in the future of ESPN is a swap with Comcast in exchange for that company’s remaining ownership stake in Hulu.

The IndieWire piece reported that the idea of a trade originated at a media executive conference last year. There has been speculation about what the future of The Worldwide Leader holds with Disney.

Hulu initially launched as a partnership between Disney, FOX and Comcast. Disney now controls 66% of Hulu after completing its acquisition of FOX’s entertainment assets in 2019.

But Iger in a recent earnings call said ESPN means a great deal to the company.

“ESPN is a differentiator for this company,” Iger said. “It’s the best sports brand in television. It’s one of the best sports brands in sports. It continues to create real value for us, It is going through some, obviously, challenging times because of what’s happened in linear programming.”

Iger added that there are no decisions or conversations taking place about finding a way to sell off or spin off ESPN from Disney.

“The brand of ESPN is very healthy, and the programming of ESPN is very healthy. We just have to figure out how to monetize it in a disrupting world,” he said. “That’s it, But we’re not engaged in any conversations right now or considering a spinoff of ESPN. That had been done, by the way, in my absence, and I’m told the company concluded after exploring it very carefully that it wasn’t something the company wanted to do.”

Pat McAfee Apologizes To Aaron Rodgers For Any Controversies His Show Created

0

Tuesday was the NFL season finale of The Pat McAfee Show, and it was also the season finale of Aaron Rodgers Tuesday.

Rodgers appeared on Tuesday to put a bow on his weekly appearances. McAfee gave thanks to the Packers quarterback for his time and said he was sorry for any controversies that have arisen in the past from Rodgers’s past appearances.

“We appreciate the hell outta you and we apologize for potentially being a platform that has got you into some stuff,” McAfee said. “More specifically darkness retreat conversations of dates and times and things like that. But we love and appreciate the hell outta you, man.”

Rodgers showed return love and told Pat that what they’ve managed to create over the years of doing these interviews is something that’s unique.

“It’s a great opportunity to share my thoughts on Tuesdays before the Wednesdays come around during the season. And I really enjoy it,” Rodgers said. “I think we’ve created an interview style that other people have tried to copy. And I think that’s a lot to be said for that. Because there’s some rawness to it. It’s not the bullshit, the robotic same standardization of answers that people do.”

Aaron added that there have certainly been some times where things he’s said have become topics of discussion around the league and the sports world.

“We’ve definitely got ourselves into some hot water. But I think we’ve always tried to speak honestly and I appreciate the opportunity to be on here every single week,” he said.

The big question that remains for Rodgers is what does his future hold. Will Rodgers retire, will he try to remain in Green Bay to finish his career, or will he be traded to another team?

There had been some speculation from NFL insiders Ian Rapoport and Adam Schefter about when Rodgers could be coming to a final decision. One of the first things Rodgers did when he appeared for his interview with McAfee on Tuesday was refute that reporting.

But Aaron said he holds no grudge against Rapoport or Schefter.

“I have no animosity towards Ian or Adam or anybody trying to do their job, but I’m here to set the record straight when they fall a little short,” Rodgers said. “And all I can say to those guys is when it comes to me, just either ask me, which you can’t, or ask somebody who actually knows if you really, really need something. And if somebody tells you, they’re probably not in the inner circle. So you can put that all together.”

Nick Wright Invited To Ride In Chiefs’ Super Bowl Parade

0

FS1 host Nick Wright is on cloud nine.

The Kansas City native is celebrating the Chiefs winning Super Bowl LVII, and Wright mentioned on Tuesday to Dan Patrick that he will be involved in the Chiefs’ championship parade on Wednesday.

Wright, who is friends with Patrick, joked that he was super busy at the moment but definitely needed to make sure he had a chance to come on with Dan to talk about the Chiefs.

“It’s a lot going on here, Dan,” Wright said. “But I made time for you my friend.”

Patrick seemed kind of surprised that Nick Wright would be in the parade. But Nick said it makes sense that he is involved.

“Why would I not be? Me and Paul Rudd I would assume are the two most famous Kansas Citians now that Harry Truman’s no longer with us,” Wright said. “I’m not sure who else is in the discussion.”

Dan mentioned Modern Family star Eric Stonestreet, and Wright said he knew Stonestreet would be involved.

“I did not mean to not mention Eric. I was just talking to Eric the other day,” Wright said. “We’re in the Kansas City elite group chat. Brett Veach is there.”

“That’s all we need,” Nick Wright added. “What more do we need?”

All CW Affiliates Will Carry Every LIV Golf Tournament

0

Forget the opt-outs. The fears that LIV Golf would not be able to take full advantage of its TV partnership with the CW can be put to bed. The network’s president says all 14 events in the 2023 season will air on every CW affiliate across the country.

“As The CW Network prepares for the launch of the first live sports broadcast in its history, we are thrilled to deliver this innovative and reimagined competition to viewers across the country,” Dennis Miller, President of The CW Network, said in a press release. “By utilizing the nationwide reach of our affiliate partners as well as the power of Nexstar stations, The CW has positioned itself as the broadcast destination for live mainstream sports for many years to come.”

All Saturday and Sunday action on the LIV Tour will air live on the network from 1:00 PM until 6:00 PM. Friday competition will be available exclusively through The CW app. The first tournament of the season begins on February 24 at Mayakoba’s El Camaleón Golf Course in Mexico.

Arlo White will handle the play-by-play. Analysts David Feherty and Jerry Foltz will join him in the booth. Dom Boulet, Su-Ann Heng, and Troy Mullins will also be a part of the broadcasts providing features and on-course coverage.

No money changed hands between The CW and LIV Golf. The deal is an advertising partnership between the two sides. Making sure the events are cleared on affiliates across the country is very important if the network is going to make this a profitable venture.

Ari Melber: There’s A Difference Between Passion and Opinion in News Coverage

0

MSNBC is often tabbed as a biased news source by conservative pundits, and host Ari Melber has pushed back against some of that criticism.

During an appearance on The Interview podcast from Mediaite, the MSNBC anchor said there is a difference between passion and opinion when it comes to partisan media.

“I think that there are times when some people mistake passion and opinion, and I think they’re different,” Melber said. “You can be passionately, politically opinionated. You can also have a deep passion that comes through and is not rooted in any partisan lens.

“So I think our show is very passionate about a whole range of important subjects that we cover. And I hope that comes through. But I think we definitely do not try to traffic in a partisan or team approach to stuff.”

The Beat with Ari Melber is currently the highest-rated show on MSNBC, and it’s a badge of honor for the network’s 6:00 PM ET host.

“I’ll be honest with you, I am especially happy that we right now are the most watched show across MSNBC or CNN while doing the show our way,” he said. “I would challenge people to find a show that goes from [Steve] Bannon to Snoop to Sheryl Crow to Matt Gaetz, to all the lawyers and experts on the people we have on.”

Matt Chernoff: John Kincade Is So Easily Triggered

0

The Philadelphia Eagles lost Super Bowl LVII in excruciating fashion Sunday, which was a welcomed sight to some observers. 680 The Fan’s Matt Chernoff used the Philadelphia loss to poke fun at his old colleague John Kincade.

During Chuck and Chernoff, the 680 The Fan host joked that while he and Kincade are friends, he has had to host several shows after losing a championship game.

“We had the task of tuning into loser — I mean, Philadelphia — radio this morning,” Chernoff said. “I consider John (Kincade) a friend, but he’s well-versed in these ‘day after shows’. He did them here a lot. Now he’s seemingly taken them to Philadelphia.”

In 2020, Kincade departed 680 The Fan after a 20-year run as a COVID-19 budget cut, and then subsequently joined 97.5 The Fanatic in Philadelphia to host its morning show.

“You hurt his feelings on Twitter,” co-host Chuck Oliver said.

“Oh, he was triggered,” Chernoff admitted. “I love to mess with him. He’s so easy. It’s so easy to draw him offsides.”

The pair have traded barbs on Twitter over the past two days about the exploits for Atlanta and Philadelphia sports teams.

Will Boling: ‘Greg Olsen Was Outstanding On Super Bowl Holding Call’

0

Questions abounded about how the NFL on FOX booth of Kevin Burkhardt and Greg Olsen would handle their first Super Bowl broadcast. If you asked Ramon, Kayla, & Will of 104.5 The Zone, it was a smashing success.

“Kevin Burkhardt and Greg Olsen crushed it on FOX in their first Super Bowl together,” Will Boling said. “I thought the way — specifically — the way Greg Olsen handled the holding penalty at the end of the game was outstanding. Gave the audience a different perspective, and didn’t just agree with Mike Pereira as soon as Mike Pereira told him it was a foul, and still went back to it and gave his thoughts on it. He’s an offensive guy. I thought it was a really good job by them. I thought the booth was tremendous the whole game.”

Both Ramon Foster and Kayla Anderson agreed, saying they both have grown to enjoy the commentary provided by Greg Olsen.

“I just hope it doesn’t turn into what people thought about Tony Romo,” Anderson added. “A lot of people loved Tony in the beginning, and then he just went rogue. I don’t think Greg’s gonna do that.”

The show then questioned how Tom Brady fits into the plans for FOX Sports, questioning if they can truly move Greg Olsen to the “b-team” for the network, saying Olsen deserves FOX’s top spot.

Andrew Fillipponi: Terry Bradshaw Interview of Andy Reid ‘In Poor Taste’

0

Terry Bradshaw is a Pittsburg legend, but that didn’t shield him from criticism from 93.7 The Fan’s Andrew Fillipponi and Chris Mueller.

On Monday, The PM Team discussed the interview between Bradshaw and Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid during the Super Bowl postgame. Bradshaw has been criticized for his conduct leading up to and concluding the interview, telling Reid to “waddle over here”, and told the two-time champion to “enjoy his Hawaiian shirts and have a cheeseburger on us”.

Fillipponi argued it wasn’t the correct scenario to joke with someone, even if the pair are friends.

“I just think there’s a time and a place to goof around with somebody about being fat and I don’t really think on the stage when you’re giving somebody their props for winning the Super Bowl is the right time or a good time to do it,” Fillipponi said.

“Terry is gonna give you the ‘I’m just trying to joke around and that’s my personality and that’s what I do. That’s why I’ve been on TV all these years and everybody knows that’s my schtick and that’s who I am’ and all that stuff. Okay, but is he making fun of somebody else’s appearance in that interview? If somebody got like a horrible haircut or somebody was a crappy dresser or something like that. Is he gonna make fun of a bald guy in that moment? No. It just seemed like he thought it would be fun and silly to make fun of a guy for being fat.”

“I’m not saying ‘Cancel Terry Bradshaw’ or anything like that, but I just thought it was in poor taste,” concluded Fillipponi.

“I thought it was odd,” Mueller said as he agreed he wasn’t trying to “cancel” Bradshaw, but added “do you really want Terry doing that again next year? Doesn’t Nantz usually hustle down there to do it for CBS? Let Kevin Burkhardt do it.”

The pair believed that when you have an award-winning reporter like Tom Rinaldi — who is widely admired — having Bradshaw conduct the interview was a curious choice.

Audacy, JR Jackson Partner With Special Olympics On New Podcast

JR Jackson has always been a champion of the Special Olympics. The CBS Sports Radio host has made the organization the centerpiece of his Media For the Movement tour, which is entering its third year.

Now Jackson is set to expand that relationship. His company JR SportBrief Productions and Audacy are partnering with Special Olympics for a new podcast called Agents of Inclusion.

“We’re delighted to partner with Special Olympics and JRSportBrief on content and action that will demonstrate our commitment to genuine inclusion, and will introduce listeners to Special Olympics athletes on a personal level they haven’t heard before,” Lena Moss Glaser, the Vice President and Executive Producer of Audacy’s 2400Sports, said in a press release. “We’re looking forward to leveraging our reach to raise awareness for the essential work Special Olympics does throughout the year.”

The partnership includes more than just the podcast. Audacy will connect with Special Olympics Programs across the country to support, volunteer, and get involved with programmed events.

“I’m excited that bringing together Audacy and Special Olympics will bring about conversation, awareness, and more importantly action,” JR Jackson told Barrett Sports Media. “Everyone deserves a chance at a level playing field. Agents of Inclusion will share some amazing athlete stories that will inspire change!”

The first episode of Agents of Inclusion drops Wednesday, February 15. Primarily audio-based, special episodes and promotional content will include video. Audacy, through its sports podcast studio, 2400Sports, will lead on production and distribution of programming.

“Demonstrating the power of inclusion through storytelling is a much more significant influencer of true action when told in a unified way,” Jason Teitler, SVP, Global Communications, and Brand Lead of Special Olympics International added. “Audacy’s vast, growing platform combined with Special Olympics athlete leadership and JR’s dedicated approach to sharing important lessons and insights will transition lives across the nation and beyond.”
