Shan and RJ Mock 94WIP Callers After Eagles Loss

The Philadelphia Eagles dropped their first game of the season last night and, naturally, that made for good fodder for 105.3 The Fan hosts Shan and RJ in Dallas Tuesday morning.

“It wouldn’t be a Filthy (sic) show unless they wanted somebody’s head!,” Shan Shariff said. “On a previously undefeated football team, they want someone’s head on a platter.”

The show then played a clip of a phone caller into 94WIP’s morning show with Angelo Cataldi saying the Eagles need to fire defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon for his performance through the first nine games of the season.

“They’re seventh best in the league in scoring defense,” Shariff continued. “Purge everyone! Get ’em out! It sounded like Angleo was going to make fun of the caller and insult him, but then he goes ‘But nobody would fight you on getting rid of the defensive coordinator this morning’.”

Shariff did note, in fairness, that the reaction from Eagles fans is similar to that of fans in his own market.

“Look, I can’t make fun of this Eagles reaction too much given the way Cowboys fans have reacted after the Lambeau game. Y’all have last your damn minds after that!”

The segment began by the pair discussing whether they should even “spy” on Philadelphia radio because the Eagles are leading the division while the Cowboys trail them. They decided, however, that the phone callers were too interesting to pass up.

Michael Kay to Don La Greca: ‘You’re Very Big In This Business’ After Barrett Sports Media Story

During an interview last week with Jake Asman, Don La Greca shared his notorious rants are good for him, because it’s better to let it out than keep it in. The subject of La Greca’s rants, as well as Barrett Sports Media’s subsequent article on the topic, came up during Monday’s episode of The Michael Kay Show.

During a discussion about who the “clown” of the show was, La Greca brought up how a recent trip to Music City with the New York Rangers showcased how legendary one of his rants has become.

“Somebody held up a sign from Nashville that said Ed Kranepool,” La Greca said, referencing his 2018 meltdown that the only “lifer” New York Mets could turn to was the club’s former first baseman. “They listen from Nashville. I went down and took pictures with them. I thought that was really cool. That’s kind of clownish with the Ed Kranepool and me screaming like a maniac.”

“That’s now clownish,” Kay replied. “It’s made you a lot of money. I saw that you got interviewed by our good buddy in Houston, Jake Asman. And then Barrett Sports Media picked it up so everyone nationally is seeing it.”

“(They) wrote an article about how I said on the air that it’s good to let it out during a rant. Don’t keep it in,” said La Greca. “There was a whole article about it. I thought that was nice.”

“You’re very big in this business. I think you know that,” Kay said.

The Michael Kay Show will be celebrating its 20th anniversary Friday at the Palladium Times Square. Kay, La Greca, and Peter Rosenberg will host the show from the theatre live before continuing with an “unplugged” event from 7:00-9:00 PM.

MSG Network Eyes NBA, NHL Second Half For Streaming Service Launch

MSG Network is planning to launch a paid streaming service to bring New York Knicks and Rangers games direct to consumers.

According to a report from Josh Kosman of The New York Post, the service will likely come with a $20-$25 a month price tag and is expected to be launched in the second half of the current NBA and NHL seasons.

“While the media landscape is certainly evolving, we continue to believe in the value of our premium content and our ability to innovate, to drive value for partners, advertisers and viewers alike,” MSG Network President and CEO Andrea Greenberg said.

The move to a streaming service is seen as a needed one for the network, as its subscriber base has dropped 9% since 2021. That number is on top of the 10% loss it experienced when Comcast dropped the network.

The news comes in the heels of reports that owner James Dolan is planning on splitting his MSG Entertainment company in two, with the cable network, new streaming service, and venues like Madison Square Garden and Radio City Music Hall into one company, and his entertainment venues like upcoming Las Vegas Sphere and nightclub chain Tao into a separate entity.

Jason Whitlock: Stephen A. Smith Not Smart To Go Toe-to-Toe With ESPN

Blaze TV host Jason Whitlock explained Saturday why he was fired from ESPN in 2006. The “Fearless” host said men who dared to speak their minds were quickly run off the network. 

“Men with balls aren’t welcomed here,” he explained. “We don’t want any real men; we want feminized men. I was the intellectual backbone for masculine men at ESPN.” 

Whitlock left Fox Sports in 2020 and signed a content deal with Glenn Beck’s conservative media outlet The Blaze. He now hosts a daily podcast and makes periodic appearances on “The Glenn Beck” show. 

“They ran me off and said, ‘No guys, you see Bomani Jones, Howard Bryant, these feminized men, that’s our blueprint, that’s the kind of masculine energy we want coming from these guys that are highly feminized and have a matriarchal point of view and are basically ‘yasss queens’ themselves,’ Whitlock said. 

“I’m not scared of any of them because I know the truth is on my side and I know how to articulate it — these athletes don’t,” Whitlock said. “They need to be backed up by someone with a pair, and what they’re finding out is like, Stephen A. Smith’s pair ain’t big enough, he’s not smart enough to stand toe-to-toe with these guys,” he added. 

Buck Sexton: Bill Maher Can Make Sense of Current Events

Buck Sexton discussed Monday the sometimes-common sense commentary that HBO host Bill Maher offers. Specifically, his commentary on the success of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. 

“The reason DeSantis is so strong is because he can do the performance art to the base most of which I don’t know that it’s really damaging, ” said the “Real Time” host. “If he picks a fight with Disney, is it really that damaging?” 

“I think there’s some insight there from Bill Maher who is a lib,” Sexton said. “I always say this, just because he says it doesn’t make it true. He can be funny sometimes. You talk to him about climate change, and you might ask yourself, “How are you so delusional.” 

“They called it the ‘Don’t say Gay Law,’ Maher added. “It could’ve been called the let’s do things in school law like we did five years ago,” he added. “He could do that but after a storm he can stand next to the President like a normal governor.” 

Maher added that DeSantis should run for president now.

Candace Owens Backs Dave Chapelle Despite Remarks About Her

Daily Wire host Candace Owens said Monday comedian Dave Chapelle flourished in his “Saturday Night Live” guest appearance despite the threat from writers to walk out because of his past comments about the LGBTQ+ community. 

Owens discussed Chapelle’s SNL performance during her “Candace Owens” podcast. 

“Dave Chapelle was absolutely wondrous on Saturday Night Live,” stated Owens. “If the writers did boycott it was in his favor because that means that he was actually allowed to be funny.”

According to Page Six, Chappelle made a joke during the dress rehearsal about a writer who refused to work with him on the show.

“Really the monologue was making fun of [Donald] Trump in a lighthearted way, also supporting Trump in a lighthearted way and talking about the voters of Ohio, and he was making fun of Kayne West and in a weird way supporting him.”

“I denounce anti-Semitism in all its forms and stand with my friends in the Jewish community,” Chappelle said. “And that, Kanye, is how you buy yourself some time.”

“Again, really funny, super lighthearted,” added Owens. “What I loved about it was that we kind of seem to be in this moment where everybody is walking on eggshells. He (Chapelle) acknowledges that at the end.”

Owens publicly acknowledged her support for Chapelle despite what she said were “disgusting comments” directed at her by him during the summer of 2020.

“My response publicly was not to condemn him but to say that comedian should be protected, and it was an honor that he mentioned my name on stage,” she added.

Jeff Saturday Tells Pat McAfee ‘I Don’t Care If I Ever Hear’ Criticism About Move

Through all the consternation over his hiring, former ESPN NFL analyst Jeff Saturday is 1-0 as an interim head coach after the Indianapolis Colts defeated the Las Vegas Raiders Sunday. Saturday told Pat McAfee he didn’t hear the media reaction to his hiring, and doesn’t care to ever hear it.

During a wide ranging discussion on The Pat McAfee Show Monday, Saturday said he has seen colleagues at ESPN ascend to head coaching roles and didn’t understand why he couldn’t do the same in the NFL.

“I was at a place at ESPN where I watched (Aaron) Boone go from talking about baseball on Sunday night to being the manager of the Yankees,” Saturday said. “I saw a ton of basketball guys come in and then all of the sudden they were head coaches at different organizations. I’ve watched it and the truth is I hadn’t seen it happen in the NFL. I’m sure it’s happened at some point, but I wasn’t familiar with it…I felt very strongly about it. It wasn’t like I was inconclusive about it — and you know me, man — it’s not just about the job, it’s the place. It’s the who. I love this organization. This group changed my life.”

He then said he appreciated McAfee’s defense of the move, but pointed out he wasn’t listening to the criticism.

“As far as people saying stuff, God’s my protector, man. He defends me. I don’t know ’em, I haven’t listened to ’em. To be honest, and I think I sent you this text, my wife sent me you, and A.J. (Hawk), and I so appreciate you. But my family told me ‘wait until you hear…’, I don’t care if I ever hear it. Listen, I didn’t call for advice. I wasn’t asking. So it’s not gonna change anything. I’m very convicted in what I’m doing, and excited for the opportunity.”

Later in the interview, Saturday said he was prepping for his work with ESPN when Colts owner Jim Irsay called and asked if he would be interested in being the team’s interim head coach late in the evening on the Sunday before Reich was fired.

The Fan Morning Show: Bill Cowher ‘Took It A Little Too Far’ With Jeff Saturday Criticism

Former Pittsburgh Steeler head coach Bill Cowher had strong criticism for the decision by the Indianapolis Colts to name ESPN NFL analyst Jeff Saturday as their interim head coach. Cowher called the move “a disgrace” and “a travesty” on The NFL Today Sunday. The Fan Morning Show on 93.7 The Fan in Pittsburgh thought Cowher went too far in his condemnation.

“Seems a bit sanctimonious for me, and I love Bill Cowher,” Colin Dunlap said. “He seemed one step away from ripping off a bunch of names that he wanted to see get the job. They broke away from the old boys club, and I think the secrets out that there may be another way to do it and we don’t want to let the secret out.”

“I get Bill Cowher for wanting to take up for coaching lifers there in Indy and he feels like someone deserved a crack at the interim who some have called a drinking buddy of the owner,” Chris Mack added. “I get that willingness to take up for your football coaching brethren but to call it a disgrace and a travesty is a bridge too far for me.”

“There is a little truth to what he is saying,” Dorin Dickerson said of Cowher. “I said last week there are guys on the staff that are deserving. Don’t sit here and tell me that Gus Bradley and John Fox need another opportunity. Talk about some other guys who deserve opportunities. Maybe? Ok. Secondly, the coaching staff is still getting paid. They didn’t lose their jobs. Sometimes when you get rid of a head coach, you clean house. The offensive staff, defensive staff, and special teams staffs still have their jobs. They’re still getting a pay check. Cowher took it a little too far and a little too personal for me.”

Angelo Cataldi Honors Al Morganti As He Enters Hockey Hall of Fame

94WIP morning co-host Al Morganti will enter the Hockey Hall of Fame this evening, and his colleague Angelo Cataldi took time on the station’s morning show to honor Morganti Monday morning.

“I have to — at least for one moment — acknowledge the contribution that Al has made to our show and to our lives,” said Cataldi. “If you don’t know the story, the only reason I’m in radio is because Al conned management into giving us a part-time job 35 years ago. The only reason this show has lasted as long as it has is because Al refused to leave for his hometown of Boston when I had an offer to leave to make a dollar more than they were giving me here.”

Cataldi credited Morganti as being the “brains of the operation” so-to-speak.

“Al has made most of the important decisions we have made on this show,” Cataldi admitted. “Al will sit in our meetings we have after the show and contribute no more than he has on the show itself. Occasionally something, but doesn’t say that much. But then a crisis would come up and we would turn to Al and say ‘Al, what should we do here?’ And he always knew the right thing. We never contradicted what his decision was, cause we trusted him.

“He was the smartest guy on this show for the last 30 years. I can tell you that with 100% certainty. What he has done in hockey is second to none because he truly acknowledged the sport at a time when not many people did. And he got inside it better than anyone else.”

The station shared several tributes to Morganti from former NHL players, NHL media members, and station personnel giving their regards to the longtime Philadelphia personality. Cataldi also welcomed former Flyer and current NHL analyst Keith Jones to the show to honor Morganti.

“I just talked to him on the phone and he sounds like a different person,” Jones said. “I don’t know what’s happened to him since he arrived in Toronto over the weekend. Something has happened. He’s telling me how beautiful Canada is. Said it’s the nicest city he’s ever been to in the world. I think we’ve lost Al to be honest with you.”
