Bret Baier, Martha MacCallum to Moderate Town Hall in Ohio

Fox News is hosting a town hall next week in Columbus, Ohio featuring U.S. Senate candidates Rep. Tim Ryan (D) and Republican J.D. Vance with the event occurring on Tuesday, Nov 1.

The town hall will be co-moderated by FNC’s chief political anchor “Special Report’s” Bret Baier and “The Story” anchor and executive editor Martha MacCallum.

According to the network, the event will feature a live audience of bipartisan Ohio voters and focus on key issues facing the swing state ahead of the midterm election on Nov. 8.

Since joining the network, Baier and MacCallum have played critical roles in the coverage of every major political event across all of FOX News Media’s platforms. Throughout FNC’s Democracy 2022 election coverage, the duo has provided viewers with the latest in political news and analysis.

“Special Report with Bret Baier” (weekdays, 6 PM/ET) and “The Story with Martha MacCallum ” (weekdays, 3 PM/ET), dominate their cable news time slots, outpacing CNN and MSNBC across the board.  

Jim Nantz Stepping Away From NCAA Tournament After 2023

CBS Sports lead announcer Jim Nantz will call his final NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament in 2023.

According to a report from Andrew Marchand of The New York Post, Nantz has made the decision to end his run as the lead voice of March Madness.

“It is time with two young children and an older daughter that I spend more time at home,” Nantz told The Post. “‘Daddy needs to be home.”

Ian Eagle will replace Nantz for the network’s coverage of the NCAA tournament.

“It’s his time,” Nantz said. “I will support him 1,000 percent. He doesn’t need my support. But I’m absolutely thrilled for him. He’s a great teammate. He’s been right in the middle of this NCAA Tournament for a long, long time.”

The 63-year-old Nantz will continue his work with the NFL on CBS and The Masters. The 2023 Final Four will take place in Houston, where Nantz began his broadcasting career at the University of Houston.

Jim Nantz has announced every Final Four for CBS since 1991.

Bill Simmons Misses Joe Buck On MLB Postseason Games

Joe Buck knew moving from FOX to ESPN would mean no longer announcing MLB games, specifically MLB playoff games and the World Series. Bill Simmons now wants Buck back on MLB games.

“I miss Joe Buck,” The Ringer founder said during The Bill Simmons Podcast. “We should be able to vote on this. Where it gets announced, ‘Buck and Aikman are thinking about going to ESPN. We should all have a vote the same way we would vote on laws or whatever. Where we’d be like, ‘Wait a second, so we lose Buck on baseball? And we lose him on those 4:00 PM awesome Fox Sunday games?’”

Simmons then took derided some of the announcers seen during the MLB Playoffs.

“I just would rather have Buck on Fox,” Simmons continued. “They gotta trade him back…I don’t even know who these announcers are doing the baseball games. There all like these generic white guys, I don’t know who’s who. It’s like, ‘I’m Joe, I’m Jim, I’m John.’”

Simmons concluded by asking why Buck couldn’t do the World Series for FOX and Monday Night Football for ESPN.

77WABC Host Greg Kelly ‘Seriously Thinking’ About New York Mayoral Run

The next mayoral election for the city of New York doesn’t happen until November of 2025, but 77WABC host Greg Kelly is already preparing for a potential run.

“If I become mayor, and I am seriously thinking about it, I will need your help,” Kelly told listeners Friday. I will need your help, I will need God’s help, I’m already reaching out to people across the country. I’m already up to 60, 70 names of people I know, trust, and some are total strangers. Some I might disagree with politically but are very talented. I’m wondering if I could recruit this person to come work for New York City. The capital of the world. At least, it was. Meanwhile (Mayor Adams) wants to go out there and fix all the problems himself.”

Another 77WABC host ran for mayor of The Big Apple in 2021, as Curtis Sliwa lost his race to now-mayor Eric Adams. Sliwa won the Staten Island borough with nearly 70% of the vote, however he only garnered 28% of the overall vote total.

While discussing a potential mayoral run with former New York mayor and current 77WABC host Rudy Giuliani, Kelly said he would run as an independent candidate.

“I think you can do it,” Giuliani said. “I also think if you want to run as an independent, I’d run as an independent and try to get the Republican leaders to endorse you.”

New Jersey 101.5 Commemorating 10th Anniversary of Superstorm Sandy

New Jersey 101.5 will air a special program to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Superstorm Sandy, which struck the coast on October 26th, 2012.

Superstorm Sandy: 10 Years Later will be hosted by Eric Scott and will feature interviews with a host of station and government personnel.

“This storm has had a lasting impact on so many aspects of New Jersey life. From the struggle to rebuild, to mitigation of future damage. Life post-Sandy has not been easy,” Scott said. “We will take a look at the lessons learned and ask if New Jersey is prepared for the future.”

Superstorm Sandy is the largest Atlantic hurricane by diameter on record. The storm caused more than $70 billion in damages and claimed the lives of 233 people.

The special will air on Wednesday, October 26th at 7:00 PM.

Conservative commentator Matt Walsh tweeted he was leaving Nashville — where he lives — for a speaking engagement over the weekend. When someone said he wasn’t welcome in Nashville, he responded with a photo that made podcaster and former cable news host Keith Olbermann laugh.

“Apparently Walsh-Blog (sic) brayed at some jackasses is Nashville when he tweeted he was leaving for his next stop,” Olbermann said. Singer Courtney Jaye replied ‘good idea to leave Nashville – you are not wanted there’. He retweeted her and replied with a photo of an outdoor crowd holding signs and tried to insult her by adding ‘These Nashville residents say otherwise’. There’s no evidence he ever looked closely enough at the photo he tweeted. Several of the signs (had) ‘Protect Trans Kids’. On another ‘No room for fascists in Nashville’. Nice self-ownage Mr. Walsh-Blog (sic).”

The photo Walsh tweeted appears to show a large group of people actually protesting him, not supporting him. The signs in the crowd advocate for transgender children and their access to healthcare, something Walsh has been adamantly opposed to.

John Sterling Plans To Return To Yankees Radio Booth Next Season

With the New York Yankees falling in the American League Championship Series, it was cause to ponder whether radio announcer John Sterling would return next season or if he had announced his final broadcast.

In an interview with Newsday, Sterling said he plans to return to the Yankees booth next season, in an undecided capacity.

“Of course,” he said. “I don’t know how many games I’ll do. Maybe I’ll do all of them. Every broadcaster takes games off. It’s not a big thing. Vin Scully started it. But I plan to continue working and I have, right now, no desire to stop. I’m going to work.”

The 84-year-old has served as the radio voice of the Bronx Bombers for 33 years. He had planned a much more reduced schedule in 2022 before Aaron Judge began chasing the American League and franchise record for home runs in a single season return Sterling to the booth more frequently.

Earlier this summer The New York Post reported New York Islanders television announcer Brendan Burke was considered a “leading candidate” should Sterling exit. Burke recently said he views himself as a “hockey guy” at this stage in his career.

Brian Boucher Prefers Being Inside The Glass

Former NHL goalie Brian Boucher has been either calling games or in the studio as an analyst since 2013 with either NBC Sports Philadelphia, NHL Network, NBC Sports, and currently at ESPN. While Boucher is comfortable doing any role for ESPN, there is one place he prefers to be.

Boucher was a guest on the You Know I’m Right podcast with Nick Durst and Joe Calabrese and he said while he would never say no when ESPN asks him to work in the studio, he prefers to be at the game as an analyst because he could interact with players and former teammates who might now be coaches.

“I like doing the games, but I’m not going to say no to doing studio work either. I’m a team player. If ESPN wants me in studio, I’ll do studio. If they want me at the game, I’ll do the game.”

The key for Boucher when he is in the studio is he wants to still listen to the broadcast because it allows him to get the right tone of the game as if he were actually at the arena:

“In the studio, you have to really pay attention. I like to listen to the broadcast personally because what they are saying is important. You want to play off what the play-by-play and color guy is saying. If there’s a narrative they are saying or there is a tone to the game, you want to make sure you have it. You can’t be distracted. Imagine you are at the game.”

Last year, Boucher wasn’t inside the glass on games for ESPN as much as he was for NBC Sports. When he was on the ice, he told the guy it was tougher to see the play develop because of what is going on as he tries to analyze everything.

“Last year, I didn’t do a lot of Inside the Glass for ESPN. I was upstairs. The difference between those two things is on the ice, you miss some stuff. There’s stuff off to the side, the benches are in the way, it’s fast down there. You need another set of eyes upstairs that can help you out. Upstairs, you see the play develop a lot easier from a bird’s eye view. I think it is easy to analyze from up there.”

While in this era of social media allows fans to think broadcasters have a bias against their team, Boucher doesn’t care what people say about the broadcast or who wins the game.

“When you are analyzing the game, it’s all encompassing, it’s both teams. There is no bias. I know fans get mad on Twitter and say you are cheering for one team. I don’t care who wins, I really don’t. Sometimes, I don’t even remember who won the game a day or two later. All I care about is we do as good a job as we can in the production, our replays are on point, we are factual, and we document the game as it should be documented.”

During the SEC Network broadcast of Texas A&M and South Carolina, the broadcast crew sampled food from the South Carolina State Fair. Jordan Rodgers ate a two-foot long corndog and turkey leg, while sideline reporter Cole Cubelic ate a burger that featured donuts as the bun. Monday, Cubelic’s radio partner Greg McElroy jokingly shared his displeasure with the segment.

“I’m fine with you doing that if you’re on Tennessee-Martin/Tennessee,” McElroy began. “I’m not fine with you doing that during a close game when it’s 17-14 and I’m freaking out because my team might lose their third straight. The game is going sideways. You can’t start eating food in a game! So Cole checks out when the o-line starts playing poorly. I am sitting here on the edge of my seat — as a South Carolina fan — absolutely freaking out trying to win the Governor’s Cup or whatever the hell it’s called, trying to win that for the first time. I am freaking out. ‘Oh my gosh, our team’s gonna do it. Beamer. We’ve got to hang on, boys. Hang on. We can do it!’

“And then, I fast forward and I have to see a Bachelor contestant eating a two-and-a-half foot corndog. I’m sitting there watching Cubelic scarf down the literal most disgusting looking piece of food I’ve ever seen in my life. The only thing that’s more disgusting than that was when he ate a Bloomin’ Onion on the dang sideline. But that’s at least appropriate because it was a sponsored element! You’re doing it for the sponsor! Outback paid for it! They paid for it! That’s why that’s appropriate! It’s never appropriate to eat on the sidelines!”

McElroy then remembered a food related scandal from his time in the NFL with the New York Jets to continue joking with Cubelic.

“Mark Sanchez ate a hot dog on the sideline against the Oakland Raiders and got crucified for it! Now, we’re just encouraging this! We’re encouraging this world in which we make it about us, the broadcasters. Not just us! But our overindulgence as Americans to consume high caloric content on the sidelines! You are at work! Grinding! You’re supposed to be an XO guy. You’re supposed to respect the XO. I would rather have you break down the second step of the right guard than I would see you eat a donut burger on the sideline. A donut burger! On the sideline! Have some self respect! At least eat some quinoa! At least eat an acai bowl! Eat something that will allow you to live beyond 52! Don’t eat a burger that has donuts as the buns!”

Scott Franzke Details Bryce Harper Game Winning Home Run Call

Bryce Harper hit one of the most important home runs in Philadelphia Phillies history yesterday, sending the franchise to the World Series in the process. Phillies radio announcer Scott Franzke joined Angelo Cataldi and the Morning Team on 94 WIP this morning to discuss the call.

“It is bedlam at the bank!”, Franzke exclaimed as the go-ahead home run proved to be the game winner.

“Scott…’Bedlam at the bank’ is perfect. Did that pop into your brain in that moment?’, Cataldi asked.

“Yeah, kind of. I loosely remember — as the ball left — I could literally make out, within a few fans, where the ball landed. I don’t know. They were throwing their arms in the air. They almost reminded me of those wind-blown Gumby dolls on the side of the road.”

“Tire companies! They’re always at tire companies!”, Cataldi said.

“Yeah. It just kinda seemed to fit. I don’t know what happened,” Franzke reiterated.

“Do me a favor. After this call, trademark ‘Bedlam at the bank’. You could make some money with that,” Cataldi concluded.

Franzke went on to say he usually broadcasts with only one ear covered by his headphones so he can hear the crowd, but during this playoff run he’s had to cover both ears because the crowd has been so loud at Citizens Bank Park.
