Roland Martin Fires Back at Kayleigh McEnany Over ‘Lap Dog’ Comments

After Kayleigh McEnany called MSNBC contributor Roland Martin and host Tiffany Cross “lap dogs” for Joe Biden, Martin bit back on Roland Martin Unfiltered.

“First, Kayleigh says that Biden ‘lap dogs follow his lead’. Let me help you out, Kayleigh. I’ve never worked for Joe Biden,” Martin said on his digital show. “I’ve never worked for President Barack Obama. In fact, I’ve never worked for a politician. You, however, literally was a lap dog for Donald Trump. You literally lied to the American people on a regular basis. You, right now, are a fake journalist, sitting in a host’s chair on Fox News when you have no training for the job whatsoever. In fact, your entire network is a lap dog for Donald Trump. The suck up that takes place by Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham, Tucker Carlson and on and on, it’s unbelievable.

“There’s a reason your network is getting sued by Dominion, because of the lies y’all pushed during the voting and the election being rigged. There is no great evidence of a network being lap dogs for Donald Trump. You know why you’re a lap dog for Donald Trump? Your ratings went down after you properly called Arizona for Joe Biden. And what did your network do? Your network fired the guy who made the call. There is no great example, Kayleigh, of lap dogs than you, and Fox News.”

Martin continued by saying employing Trump’s daughter-in-law, Lara, is further evidence of “lap dog” behavior. He then took issue with Fox News host Harris Faulkner saying she didn’t know what Martin does for a living, saying he has her phone number and she has is, and the pair went to the Apollo Theatre together. He pointed out he doesn’t work for MSNBC, like Faulkner insinuated, before saying she should do some “basic-ass research”.

Aaron Judge tied Roger Maris’ homerun mark on Wednesday evening, but the chase continues to capture and disseminate the record-breaking blast.

Ben Cafardo of ESPN reported that the Yankees-Orioles game on Friday will be available on ESPN+. It was previously reported that the matchup, originally slated to be exclusively on Amazon Prime Video, will also feature distribution on the YES Network, too.

Andrew Marchand of The New York Post followed up Cafardo’s tweet with more broadcast news concerning Judge’s chase. The team’s three games this weekend will air on the MLB Network, outside of the YES Network footprint. ESPN has also decided it will off live cut-ins yet again.

Dodgers To Honor Jaime Jarrín, the Team’s Retiring Spanish-Language Radio Voice

Jaime Jarrín, the Los Angeles Dodgers Spanish-language radio voice since 1959, will be honored and celebrated before the team plays the Colorado Rockies on Saturday.

The L.A. Times reported that the retiring Jarrín will finish his time on the air after the team’s playoff run and will continue to “represent the organization as a community ambassador.”

“I feel really good physically, mentally really good,” he said. “I think I could keep working four or five more years, but no, I think this is the precise moment.”

Jarrín “didn’t reach the American mainstream until 1981” when he served as former MLB pitcher Fernando Valenzuela’s primary interpreter during his rookie season.

Mike Rhyner Confirms ‘I’m Back’

After much speculation about a third sports radio station returning to the Dallas airwaves as 97.1 The Freak, we have confirmation of one thing: Mike Rhyner is back.

In a video tweeted by “the old grey wolf” Thursday afternoon, Rhyner says “I’m back, bitches” before a title screen says “The Old Grey Wolf Is Back!”

Rhyner stepped away from The Ticket in January of 2020 after helping launch the station in 1994.

It is believed that 97.1 The Eagle will transition to a sports talk station called 97.1 The Freak, with Rhyner, former Eagle hosts Ben Rogers and Jeff “Skin” Wade, former 105.3 The Fan host Jeff Cavanaugh, and former Ticket hosts Julie Dobbs and Mike Sirois will all be a part of the new station.

97.1 The Eagle was previously the radio flagship of the Dallas Mavericks. It is assumed 97.1 The Freak will continue to serve in that same capacity.

Mike Francesa Reveals Toughest Guest He Ever Interviewed

The Mike Francesa Podcast has turned into a cross between sports talk and story time. Whenever Francesa opens the floor to listener emails, he finds himself oscillating between commenting on New York’s biggest teams and stories and sharing insight from his time at WFAN.

On Thursday’s episode, an emailer named Frankie asked about the best and worst experiences that Mike Francesa had as an interviewer.

The Sports Pope revealed that confrontational guests never bothered him. He was happy whenever a guest would push back against him or Chris “Mad Dog” Russo.

“I like that,” he said. “You know, I always thought give and take was fair.”

What Francesa really hated were guests that would not answer simple questions. That is what made the late Don King his least favorite radio guest.

“It was so hard to get him to be quiet, to get a question in, to actually keep him on track,” Francesa said.

He said it was “a pain in the neck” trying to get Don King to simply answer the question he was asked.

“It was like dealing with a politician. He would answer the question and take it off in a tangent that had nothing to do with the question you were asking him.”

Mike Francesa gets to be a lot pickier about who he talks to these days. His podcast features more reactions than interviews. When he does welcome guests to the show, they are usually longtime friends from the New York sports scene.

FOX Sports Radio Unveils Weekend Football Lineup

After the transition of Covino & Rich to its daily lineup, FOX Sports Radio has unveiled a newly revamped weekend lineup.

Mark Willard and former NFL offensive lineman Ephraim Salaam will take the slot previously held by Covino & Rich, Sundays from 8:00 PM-11:00 PM ET.

Also, the network has launched FOX Sports Radio’s Countdown to Kickoff on Saturdays from 9:00 AM-12:00 PM ET. The show will be hosted by Brian Noe, who will be joined by former All-American Rich Ohrnberger and betting analyst Jared Smith. A show with the same name will also be heard on Sundays from 10:00 AM-1:00 PM featuring Noe, former NFL offensive lineman Geoff Schwartz, and betting analyst Bill “Krack” Krackomberger.

“As a complement to the best weekday lineup in sports talk, we couldn’t be more excited to serve fans with the most entertaining live sports talk 24/7,” said FOX Sports Radio Vice President of Sports Programming Scott Shapiro. “Whether it’s before the games, during them, or directly after, FOX Sports Radio is always live and delivering the content that sports fans crave.”

Mike Breen Home Destroyed By Fire

ESPN and MSG announcer Mike Breen saw his Long Island home was destroyed by a fire Sunday morning.

According to a report from TMZ, no one was home at the time of the fire. Fire department officials were alerted by alarms at the home and also several phone calls by neighbors.

“Mike is a cherished member of the ESPN family and he knows he has our full support through this excruciating circumstance,” ESPN said in a statement obtained by The New York Post. “We know the damage is devastating, and at the same time, we are grateful that he and his family are safe.”

The 61-year-old Breen has served as ESPN’s lead NBA play-by-play announcer since 2006. He’s also served as the New York Knicks play-by-play announcer on MSG for 30 years. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame last year.

The Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department says the blaze is under investigation.

Angelo Cataldi: Sesame Street Revealed Hearing Loss

94 WIP morning host Angelo Cataldi has made no bones about getting older. The 71-year-old host is slated to retire at the end of the upcoming Philadelphia Eagles season, and said he got more clarification that he’s getting older after a recent conversation with his wife and granddaughter led to him getting hearing aids.

“Couple of weeks ago I’m watching Sesame Street with my granddaughter, Delaney, and I’m not gonna lie to you, I wasn’t picking every word up. Fortunately — and I’ve done this with movies and other things — you can get closed captioning for Sesame Street. I just wanted to follow along with her so we could discuss what was happening on the screen. I’m a fine grandfather. My wife walks in and goes ‘You got subtitles for Sesame Street?’. I go ‘Yeah, I wasn’t picking up every word’.

“She said ‘That’s it. We’re both going to see a hearing authority. You need hearing aids!’ I said to her ‘What? I didn’t hear you’. And we went on Tuesday. She got cleared. Her hearing is impeccable. My hearing, on the other hand, stinks. I have tinnitus. I have a ringing in my ears. I’m a screamer! I blew my own ear drums out. In two weeks, I will be sporting an ear apparatus.”

He continued by saying he had trouble hearing his granddaughter’s speaking voice because it’s still high pitched. He said the next couple of weeks are an “end of an era” of using his own ears. After the show played a clip of his granddaughter saying he “don’t have good ears, he can’t hear me”, Cataldi said he didn’t hear what was said on the air.

Keith Olbermann: When Did Tucker Carlson, Laura Ingraham ‘Go Crazy’?

During his Countdown with Keith Olbermann podcast Thursday, the eponymous host wondered aloud when people like Tucker Carlson and Laura Ingraham went “crazy”, after Carlson said the likely culprit for the “sabotage” of the Nord Stream pipelines off the coast of Denmark was President Joe Biden.

Olbermann said Carlson “was once just your despicable, run-of-the-mill conservative but he wasn’t crazy. Same for Laura Ingraham, Rudy Giuliani, Elise Stefanik, Lindsey Graham, and dozens more. Terrible, reactionary, destructive conservatives but not crazy. I sat an anchor desk at MSNBC once and I heard Tucker Carlson, then a new MSNBC host, rattle off a list of conservative conspiracy theorists he thought was damaging the United States of America: Rush Limbaugh, Michael Savage, and Glenn Beck.”

He then went after another Fox News host, and former love interest, Laura Ingraham.

“Laura Ingraham has a brother who is ‘out’,” Olbermann revealed. “When I knew her, she was proud of him. Defended him. Even claimed he was part of what she called the ‘not-so-vast right wing conspiracy’. And for all her political vitriol, she was utterly accepting about orientations and lifestyles. And rights. What sent these people — who pretty much lived their lives well-balanced on the edge — over the edge?”

Olbermann added he believes people, not just conservatives or political figures, have “undiagnosed PTSD” from the September 11th terrorist attacks.

Paul Rotella Departing New Jersey Broadcasters Association

The New Jersey Broadcasters Association is losing its longtime leader. All Access reports Paul Rotella has stepped down.

“Since 2008, I have been privileged to serve the broadcast industry by helping the NJBA meet fiscal and industry-wide challenges,” Rotella said. “My lobbying efforts on behalf of the industry, and the production of our informative and exciting annual conferences, have been particularly gratifying aspects of my work on behalf of our nationally acclaimed Association. I am especially grateful for the wonderful friendships that this experience has provided me and for the superb colleagues I have been fortunate enough to call friends. Most of all, I am blessed with the best family anyone could ask for, and I am particularly grateful for their unselfish contributions to my success, and to the success of the NJBA.”

A replacement for Rotella has not been named.
