Keith Olbermann: ‘Quality Control Took Month Off’ At Audacy

0

During his Countdown With Keith Olbermann podcast Thursday, the eponymous host took a shot at Audacy for several errors the company has made during commercials produced by the broadcaster for their audio streams, saying it was evident “someone in quality control took the month off”.

“First, it was a spot that announced the Audacy Baseball Player of the Week that ran during audio streams of Major League games — like 40 million times in one week — saluting Chicago White Sox pitcher Johnny Q-toe. Mispronounced his name like that three times in 30 seconds. Q-toe. Its Cueto. C-U-E-T-O. He has been a major league pitcher since 2008. It has always been Cueto. That spot has been, mercifully, retired.”

Olbermann then went on to say the same issue persists in a different commercial for Audacy.

“Now some Audacy music news spot is running — like 40 million times all day everywhere — while reporting the remix of The Beatles album by the producer son of the legendary producer George Martin, Giles Martin, his son. Except Audacy has called him Gills. Gills Martin. Maybe he’s half fish?”, Olbermann said while suppressing laughter.

Audacy, which is facing delisting by the New York Stock Exchange if it cannot raise its stock price to more than $1 per share in the next 6 months, refuted claims earlier this week that it will enter bankruptcy.

Townsquare Media Unveils Washington State News Network

0

An effort from Townsquare Media to launch the Washington State News Network has come to fruition.

In a press release, Townsquare Media says the network aims to be “the only source of local, regional, and statewide news that is available to broadcasters and listeners in the State of Washington.”

The Washington State News Network will provide eight 90-second reports on weekdays for three Townsquare news/talk stations in the state, and other stations that subscribe to the service.

“We are thrilled to bring quality local, regional and statewide news to the many communities in Washington State that are starving for more local information in their communities,” Townsquare Media Western Region Vice President of News & Ag Networks Kevin O’Rorke said. “Many broadcasters were forced to cut news staff and content during the pandemic and we couldn’t be more excited to fill that void for both broadcasters in need of the service and listeners wanting the latest breaking news.”

Zach Gelb Questions Aaron Donald About Practice Scuffle, Gets Shut Down By Rep Mid-Interview

0

After a joint practice brawl saw Los Angeles Rams defensive lineman Aaron Donald swing a pair of helmets at opposing players, many questions were raised about the incident. CBS Sports Radio host Zach Gelb secured an interview with Donald and asked questions, which a representative of Donald tried to shut down mid-interview.

“What happened last week in joint practices?” Gelb asked. “Because we all saw the video of you swinging helmets? And people were wondering what was going on there?”

““It was just a practice. Obviously, people got phones out and things like that but I’m not gonna sit and talk about negative stuff that happened at a practice. My main focus is Buffalo,” Donald said.

Gelb then asked if Donald was punished internally, which the three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year said “We talked”. Gelb then tried to ask if Donald was fearful of being suspended before a representative for Donald interjected.

“Hey Zach, we’re just gonna focus just here because Aaron’s here today to talk about Dr. Teal’s,” the unidentified rep said. “So you do have two minutes left, if you want to pivot to your last question, please.”

Gelb persisted to ask another question before getting to Donald’s pitch, wondering what sparked the joint practice scuffle. Donald sidestepped the question by going straight into his sponsor mentions.

The CBS Sports Radio host later tweeted that he was never told he couldn’t ask about the practice incident, and he wouldn’t have taken if the interview if that was the directive.

Albert Breer: No Anti-Cleveland Bias In Deshaun Watson Coverage

0

Earlier this week, 92.3 The Fan morning show host Ken Carman said he couldn’t be convinced the national media’s reaction to the Browns acquiring Deshaun Watson would have been as critical if another team traded for him. Sports Illustrated‘s Albert Breer refuted that there was an anti-Cleveland bias, but did understand Carman’s logic while discussing the matter with the Dustin Fox and Nick Wilson Wednesday afternoon.

After pointing out that virtually any team who traded for Watson, who was found by the NFL to have violated the league’s Personal Conduct Policy after being accused by more than two dozen women of sexual impropriety, was going to face backlash, Breer did concede that some coaches would receive more benefit of the doubt than others.

“There might be a couple of coaches who have such capital when it comes to these sorts of things that it might be viewed differently, and I think the problem the Browns have — this is not even the fault of the guys who are there that haven’t been there that long — but its really easy to tie things that have happened with Deshaun to things that have happened over the last 20 years.

“If Kansas City acquired him, it would be very easy to say ‘Look how Michael Vick turned out’. That went really well (being coached by now-Chiefs head coach Andy Reid) so why won’t this go well?’ I think it’s just as easy to tie the Deshaun Watson stuff to what’s gone on in Cleveland.”

Breer also noted Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin as someone who would receive more benefit of the doubt for trading for Watson for being know as a high integrity coach and his experiences in working with players who had been viewed as difficult or a distraction.

Bomani Jones, ESPN Agree To New Deal

0

Fans of Bomani Jones can finally exhale. A new episode of his ESPN podcast The Right Time dropped on Thursday morning. It is the first new episode since July, when he announced that he would be taking time off.

“It’s a little weird, the way it had to wrap up from last time,” Jones said to Domonique Foxworth, who joined him both on his last episode in July and on the new episode that came out Thursday. “Domonique, you was here for the weird of it. I don’t even think you fully understood either and everybody was like ‘oh damn, what happened?’.”

BSM learned that while he did have a vacation scheduled, Jones and his representatives were still in negotiations for a new contract even as the previous one was set to expire.

Jones suggested that he was never worried about a new deal getting done, but clearly the people that listen to The Right Time were.

“It wasn’t really nothing I felt like talking about. It was maybe something I coulda told y’all about it. I didn’t necessarily feel like it. I kept trying to tell y’all on Twitter ‘I’m good. Everything’s good. We good. Don’t worry.’ Then, I realized y’all wasn’t worried. Y’all are just greedy.”

Sources have told Barrett Sports Media that Bomani Jones does have a new deal with ESPN. The contract is focused largely on his digital content, but does include a limited number of TV appearances.

Details regarding financial terms and number of years were unavailable.

While listeners can expect to hear new episodes of The Right Time in the coming weeks, they will not be coming on a regular schedule. The show returns to its previous schedule of three episodes each week in October.

Domonique Foxworth To Debut ‘The Foxworth Show’ Podcast

0

During an appearance on The Right Time with Bomani Jones, ESPN analyst Domonique Foxworth revealed he’s slated to launch a new podcast, The Foxworth Show, in the coming weeks.

“I’m launching my own podcast on Tuesdays and Thursdays called The Foxworth Show. You can go ahead and subscribe right now,” Foxworth joked. “I’m launching during football season so we’ll be heavy on that but once we’re out of that I hope to show some of my personal interests in things that I’m intrigued by. But it should be fun, should be smart, should be honest, all the things you’ve grown to take from this podcast and frankly, every other vehicle I’ve been on, just more concentrated.”

It’s another expansion of Foxworth’s profile at the network. He currently makes regular appearances on Get Up!, First Take, Keyshawn, JWill, and Max, and ESPN’s digital show Debatable.

The Volume Expands Gambling, Video, And Partnerships Verticals With Five Executive Hires

0

In February 2021, The Volume entered the sports media space, destined to forge an identity as a sports podcast network. Created by FOX Sports Radio and FS1 host Colin Cowherd, the brand quickly began generating attention, thanks in large part to the national profile of its founder and the arrival of four additional shows hosted by former WWE announcer Renee Paquette, comedian and sports gambling fanatic Alex Monaco, former NFL defensive back Aqib Talib, and longtime friends and basketball junkies LaJethro Jenkins and Dragonfly Jonez.

Soon thereafter, Cowherd would add Logan Swaim from DAZN to serve as the network’s Head of Content. Additional shows were launched featuring former NFL scout and football analyst John Middlekauff, Action Network’s Chief Content Officer Chad Millman, and Notre Dame teammates Kyle Hamilton, Cam Hart, KJ Wallace, and Conor Ratigan. Then just nine months after launching, the company would make another big splash when Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green signed on to host a weekly podcast and serve as an advisor to the emerging network.

By investing in unique talent and creating interesting shows, the brand has enjoyed quicker than expected growth. In addition to the fourteen podcasts featured on its website, the company has started a new show with Richard Sherman, and a college football show with T-Bob Hebert and Aaron Murray. Well known NFL reporter Mike Silver also joined the company over the summer.

Despite launching five years after Bill Simmons introduced The Ringer, the network has already surpassed them on YouTube with an impressive 800,000 subscribers across all of its YT channels. Millions more receive the company’s content on social media whether that’s through the brand’s main accounts or popular hosts such as Cowherd, Green, Paquette and others.

In order to further capitalize on the momentum created over the past eighteen months, the company is set to expand its leadership team. In an exclusive story reported first by Barrett Sports Media, Cowherd has confirmed the addition of five new executive hires. All will report directly to The Volume’s Head of Content, Logan Swaim.

Charged with helping the company strengthen its position across the sports media landscape are Andrew Samson, Alisa Harrison, Sean Herlihy, Allyson Porter, and Matt Kline. Each will have different responsibilities for the network, which we’ve laid out below.

In a statement provided to BSM, Volume Founder Colin Cowherd said, “We are always looking for people with unique perspectives and an innovative approach to their work. The leadership team we’ve assembled is going to use those qualities to strengthen our existing business and find new opportunities for The Volume as we head into our second year.”

Cowherd will be a guest next week on The Jason Barrett Podcast. The episode will be released on Tuesday September 6th. He is expected to share additional insight on the company’s new executive hires, The Volume’s growth and future goals, and much more.

THE VOLUME’S NEW EXECUTIVE HIRES

Andrew Samson, Executive Producer – Andrew will oversee The Volume’s flagship program “The Colin Cowherd Podcast.” Samson is an Emmy Award-winning writer who previously served as Director of Content for The XFL.

Alisa Harrison, Head of Production – Alisa will manage the creative and technical execution of the network’s entire slate of shows both in audio and video. She previously oversaw branded and documentary programming at Overtime.

Sean Herlihy, Head of Gambling – Sean will oversee the expansion of The Volume’s growing gambling content vertical, liaising with its partners at FanDuel and The Action Network with a goal of delivering them new audiences and customers. Herlihy previously worked at FS1 where he developed and executive produced Fox Bet Live.

Allyson Porter, Head of Programming – Allyson will oversee partnerships, distribution deals, and new show development. Porter previously worked for Activision Blizzard where she built a robust Esports roster and spearheaded the company’s gaming content.

Matt Kline, Head of Digital – Matthew will oversee The Volume’s growing social channels and build new revenue streams through digital. Kline previously worked for ESPN where he managed the network’s Snapchat shows and oversaw the development, launch, and production of digital shows for emerging platforms.

Shannon Bream Ready for Sunday Move, Signs Off Late Night

1

Fox News anchor Shannon Bream credited her co-workers and those who worked diligently behind the scenes Tuesday as she bid farewell to her late-night audience.

Earlier this month, FNC announced that Bream would be taking over as the new host of “Fox News Sunday” a position once occupied by Chris Wallace.

“We have so many amazing people and we’ve been on this ride together since we launched this show five years ago,” said Bream.

“Shannon is an outstanding journalist, reporter and anchor who has cultivated a strong and enduring relationship with the Fox News Media audience,” Fox News Media CEO Suzanne Scott said in a statement earlier this month.

Bream reflected on some of the important stories that her team helped to cover on “Fox News @ Night.”

“We’ve covered COVID, wars, and these incredible things that have happened in history. And these folks are not only the best co-workers, but they’re also truly my friends, my family, I love them.”

Bream added that the show wouldn’t have been possible had it not been for the viewers.

“I’m just moving a few hours away, but I am not leaving the family.”

Bream joined Fox News in 2007 as a network Chief Legal Analyst.

Vince Coglianese: TV Executives Want to Run Joe Biden Speech

0

On Thursday, President Joe Biden will address the nation from Philadelphia in a primetime event from Independence National Historic Park.

WMAL talk show host Vince Coglianese said on Wednesday the Biden administration is getting a generous donation from TV executives who choose to run the speech.

“The Biden White House has scheduled a primetime extravaganza where they are going to see if they can get Joe to read a teleprompter again. They haven’t succeeded yet but maybe this time will be the charm,” Coglianese said.

According to Fox News, Biden will use the opportunity to discuss America’s democracy which he claims is “under attack.”

“Joe will be standing in Philadelphia; he will be standing in Independence Hall, and he’ll trample all over the constitution,” remarked Coglianese.

Coglianese said that broadcast networks will hand over their airtime to the President of the United States which he referred to as “a giant in-kind contribution to the Democrats.”

“Now of course none of us will be surprised if they do that but understand the context in which it is happening,” he added.

Coglianese accused Biden of trying  to “whip up support for the Democrats as we approach the midterms.”

Trace Gallagher Speculates If Ex-FBI Agent Will Land TV Gig

1

Fox News anchor Trace Gallagher surmised that a former FBI agent who lost his job due to an alleged political bias may soon end up working for a cable news network as an analyst.

Gallagher appeared Wednesday on the nationally syndicated “Brian Kilmeade Show.”

According to the New York Post, Timothy Thibault, an FBI assistant special agent in charge, was allegedly forced out after he was accused of mishandling the Hunter Biden probe.

“Republican Senators also publicly scrutinized Thibault’s alleged anti-Trump social media activity, including a retweet of Lincoln Project’s message calling Donald Trump a psychologically broken, bittered and deeply unhappy man,” Kilmeade said.

Kilmeade added that Thibault supposedly tweeted that he wanted to give Kentucky back to the Russian Federation. He said that FBI Director Chris Wray admitted earlier this month that the allegations were deeply troubling,

“I’m wondering if Thibault will start on MSNBC tonight, or do we not know when he starts on the air?” Gallagher asked.

Kilmeade said the first thing that crossed his mind after he heard the news about Thibault was which network would hire him first.

“As we watch Peter Strzok on every hour analyzing this,” added Gallagher. Strzok was fired by the FBI several years ago after becoming ensnared in the Russian collusion hoax.
