In a series of tweets Monday, Hewitt said reporting from several outlets offered potential "alternatives" to McCarthy in part because they "love narratives of GOP in chaos".
"They're no longer true media reporters with journalistic integrity. Instead, they're all a bunch of slappies that are all controlled by the government and big tech."
"You would think Americans would say 'Enough. I'm not watching this anymore. I'm not reading these newspapers anymore. I'm gonna watch O'Reilly. Or something else that has some kind of credibility'."
