Former White House disinformation czar Nina Jankowicz is speaking out about the disbanding of the short-lived project following President Joe Biden’s decision to kill the effort long before it started.
Fox News reports that Jankowicz appeared on CNN with Laura Coates on Friday, Jankowicz said the disinformation board fell victim to misinformation.
“Unfortunately, and ironically, we were undone exactly by a disinformation campaign coming from folks who apparently want to put our national security behind their own personal political ambitions,” she said.
Conservative pundits pushed for an investigation into the creation of the board citing First Amendment issues and misuse of the Department of Homeland Security which was created on Nov. 25, 2002, after Congress passed the Homeland Security Act following the 9/11 attacks.
“Well, you know, DHS is an extremely large department – 250,000 people work there – the department had other priorities,” Jankowicz told Coates. “It’s got a huge mission set.”
Republican politicians believed Jankowicz was a partisan actor who sold fake news stories via Tik Tok. According to the New York Post, Jankowicz promoted the Russian collusion story. The paper also said she denied Hunter Biden’s laptop story was real.
“I think there were other priorities that were kind of put ahead of this rollout of the Disinformation Governance Board,” she added.
