It seems like not even the confines of terra firma can contain the growth of sportsbooks. You can now add the wide-open sea as a place you can now legally place a wager. That’s thanks to a new deal between BetMGM and Carnival Cruise Lines.
The two announced a partnership to put sportsbooks on more than 50 U.S.-based ships. The arrangement will allow passengers the opportunity to place a bet while docked at a port in a state that allows sports betting or in the vast blue ocean. Passengers will be able to bet using a mobile app or at physical kiosks on the ship.
The agreement encompasses the Carnival Cruise Line, Holland America Line and Princess Cruises. Princess began offering sports betting last October.
“We’ve found an ideal partner in Carnival Corporation and look forward to providing our sports betting and iGaming products to its millions of passengers,” BetMGM CEO Adam Greenblatt said in a statement. “This is another great opportunity for us to further expand BetMGM’s footprint.”
As far as when passengers will be able to take part in the sportsbooks on ships, BetMGM says that will be phased in over the next few months. Until then, passengers will have to stick to casino gambling with poker, slots and table games.
