National Public Radio (NPR) on Friday announced in a note to its staff the launch of a Disinformation Reporting Team.
Shannon Bond, who joined NPR in 2019, will join the team on Aug 1. The former Financial Times reporter serves as NPR’s Tech Correspondent covering news from Meta, Twitter, and other tech platforms.
NPR investigative journalist Lisa Hagen begins her work with the Disinformation Team Monday. The Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist has covered the gun rights controversy for NPR. She also covered criminal and social justice stories for NPR affiliate WABE in Atlanta.
Veteran journalist Huo Jingnan will assist by spearheading projects and fleshing out patterns and money trails related to spreading false information. She will reportedly start on the disinformation beat later this month and continue to be based in the Washington, DC area.
Brett Neely will act as the supervising editor of the team. Neely has been at NPR since 2015. He covered the 2016 and 2020 elections and has worked with reporters on the Washington, Science, Business, and National desks.
