In 2004, the NFL and Sirius (before that company merged with competitor XM) signed a partnership to bring play-by-play of every game to satellite radio each season. On Tuesday, the two sides announced a deal to extend that relationship. That will take the partnership beyond two decades.
The extension runs through the end of the 2027 season and Super Bowl LXI. SiriusXM listeners will continue to be able to access every game on satellite radio and the SXM app. NFL Network Radio, the satellite platform’s channel dedicated to the league, is also part of the new deal.
“We are pleased to continue our agreement with SiriusXM,” Brian Rolapp, the NFL’s Chief Media and Business Officer, said in a press release. “SiriusXM continues to be an important part of the NFL family, providing fans access to live game audio as well as all the news and information around their favorite teams in addition to SiriusXM’s great 24/7, 365 League coverage on SiriusXM NFL Radio.”
SiriusXM will also provide team-specific content for each NFL franchise on the SXM app.
“The popularity of the NFL, and the passion of their fans, is extraordinary. Since 2004 the NFL has been an important component of SiriusXM’s programming lineup as we deliver those fans exceptional access to all their favorite teams,” Scott Greenstein, SiriusXM’s President and Chief Content Officer added. “We couldn’t be more pleased to now be expanding our relationship with the league, ensuring our listeners will continue to get comprehensive access to the NFL.”
