SuperTalk 99.7 WTN morning host Dan Mandis shared a story of how his radio career nearly never got off the ground Monday morning.
During a discussion about what the morning show team would be doing if they weren’t in radio, Mandis said he wanted to join the military but delayed his plans.
“There was a time in my life where I was either going to go into the military or get into radio. And I got a DJ shift at the college radio station I just started working at and I decided that I would go ahead and try radio instead of going to the military,” Mandis said. “There were people who told ‘Mandis, you’ll never make it in radio. You’ve got this really high voice. You sound like Mickey Mouse’,” said Mandis as he imitated the Disney character. “‘Why don’t you get really good at production, Mandis? Because you really sound like this,” the impersonation concluded.
Ultimately, it seems as if Mandis got the last laugh.
“Alright, well those people are now unemployed.”
