Toucher and Rich: The Success Rate of People Who Left NESN is “Pretty Good”

NESN in partnership with WEEI is holding a fundraiser telethon for The Jimmy Fund as part of an effort to raise money for cancer research. NESN announced that some former talent are returning to help the cause. The amount of talent that has recently been with NESN and left surprised Rich Shertenlieb of Toucher and Rich.

Shertenlieb brought up the fundraiser and even though it’s being handled by “the other radio station” he said it was important to donate if you can. He then saw the list of former NESN talent and what stood out to him was how so many of them have moved into major media roles.

“NESN just tweeted out this photo. I guess what they are going to be doing over the next couple of days is they are going to be bringing back ex-employees from NESN,” said Shertenlieb. “I’m looking… and man NESN just truly had a way of not holding onto their talent and the talent going on and doing something much bigger and better afterwards.”

“I’ll give them this, the success rate of people who left NESN has been pretty good,” mentioned Shertenlieb.

Shertenlieb then mentioned some of the names he saw including Leah Hextall who signed with ESPN and became the first woman to hold a play-by-play role as part of a national TV broadcast with the NHL deal. Also Jenny Dell was mentioned, who is now the lead college football sideline reporter for CBS Sports. Kacie McDonnell too, she became a FOX News host. Jade McCarthy went on to ESPN before joining Sports Spectrum. Jamie Erdahl who now hosts Good Morning Football and Kathryn Tappen who now works with NBC Sports.

After recalling all of that Shertenlieb quipped, “NESN sure knows how to not hold onto their talent. They all move on. They’ve got an eye for hiring them at first but then they all end of leaving and doing bigger and better things.”
