The New York Yankees want the television call of Aaron Judge’s historic home run to be made by Michael Kay. The team has offered a trade that would send Kay, David Cone and Paul O’Neill plus production support to put Friday’s broadcast on YES.
According to the New York Post, Apple and MLB have declined all offers from YES to put the game on the Yankees’ owned network, but that doesn’t rule out the possibility of Michael Kay making the potential call of a historic home run hit by Judge.
The Yankees appear to be attempting to work on getting Kay on the Apple broadcast of the Friday night game. Apple TV+ is scheduled to air the Yankees/Red Sox game on Friday as part of their deal with the club for the Friday night broadcasts and are planning to have the broadcast team of play-by-play broadcaster Stephen Nelson plus Hunter Pence and Katie Nolan.
Kay told The Post that he had not heard of any of this chatter before reading the story.
“The first I learned of this is from The Post’s website,” Kay told The Post. “At first blush, I would feel very uncomfortable taking the assignment away from someone else.”
According to The Post, YES is willing to run Apple’s broadcast on its air to make it easier for Yankees fans to watch, allowing Apple to maintain its exclusivity to the game outside of the YES footprint.
The Yankees and YES are working on a trade, but, at the moment, Apple and MLB are only looking to add Kay.
