Brandon Robinson: Media Backlash to Kyrie Irving ‘In Poor Taste’

Bally Sports NBA Insider Brandon Robinson, also known as “Scoop B“, believes the media coverage surrounding Kyrie Irving and his reaction to tweeting a link to a film widely regarded as anti-Semitic has been unfair.

During a televised interview, Robinson was asked by PIX11 sports anchor Marc Malusis if athletes should be responsible for what they post on social media. He said they should be responsible, but added covering Kyrie Irving is never cut and dry.

“I think that in this instance, there are a couple of things that stand out to me. Number one: Context. So that tweet that had the Amazon Prime link, did not have any captions attached to it. I understand the way Kyrie thinks in a lot of aspects, but I think in this one, it was open to so much interpretation. With conversations with folks in the know, they shared with me that he is not anti-Semitic, but in this instance it was part of his journey.”

“I think this backlash is really in poor taste,” Robinson continued. “He is in a contract year. I’ll even take it a step further. When you look at this instance here, if the Nets were 5-0, we wouldn’t be having this conversation. I think when you look at a team that’s 1-4 and you’re focusing on an Amazon Prime link that has — at that point — 1,200 reviews and 4.5 stars, we’re getting away from the game.”

He concluded by saying the media “should be talking about the Nets, not a movie”. Robinson then called himself “a realist”, adding “I don’t think we should be having this conversation. There is such a thing as kitchen table talk, and I kind of file it under that”.
