Toucher & Rich: ‘Let Twitter Burn to the Ground’

Many on Twitter decried it’s downfall yesterday, with those sending farewell messages should the social media platform cease to exist in the coming days. 98.5 The Sports Hub’s Toucher & Rich debated whether they could do without the Elon Musk-owned social media site.

“Earlier this week, (Musk) sent out an email to employees that said they’d have to work longer and more hardcore — I believe hardcore is the term he used — Twitter employees,” Rich Shertenlieb explained. “They had to agree by 5:00 PM on Thursday. It was basically two things you could agree to: it was either yes, you were going to be more hardcore and work more hours or you could quit and get a three-month severance. There was a massive walkout to the point that so many people left they are saying — engineering wise — that if there was even a small glitch, it will shutdown Twitter because there is nobody there who is able to fix it.”

“I would be all for Twitter going away,” Fred Toucher said. “That would be fantastic. Let it burn.”

“I use Twitter for a lot of news,” Shertenlieb argued. “Out of all the social media things, I — by far — use Twitter the most.”

“You could get by without Twitter,” Toucher countered.

“It’s not as easy!,” Shertenlieb said.

They also discussed how Instagram has plenty of content, but it’s inability to easily share links is a detriment. Toucher concluded by saying “Just ’cause you hate it doesn’t mean it ain’t the future.”
