According to Steak Shapiro, sports betting is right around the corner in Georgia. He said Tuesday on 92.9 The Game that it is only a matter of time before residents of the Peach State can make online wagers.
A bill has been filed in the Georgia State Legislature that would make gambling legal. It would be overseen by the state’s lottery commission and contribute funds to the state’s Hope Scholarship, which makes college tuition-free to students that reach certain academic benchmarks in high school and then choose a state institution.
“This is front and center, and when I give you more details on it, let’s just say sports gambling for someone living in Atlanta or Roswell or Alpharetta or Macon or Rome or College Park, listen, this thing is coming. They have the momentum they need,” Shapiro said.
If the bill passes, there will be no physical sportsbooks in the state. Steak Shapiro said that is key to this moving quickly. In fact, he predicts that Georgians will be able to bet on the Kentucky Derby.
“This thing can get passed in the next two weeks.”
He added that his show, The Steakhouse, will be a hub for information. Members of the State Legislature as well as the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce are scheduled to join the show to explain what making the bill into law can do for the state.
“Very, very exciting, and it’s happening fast,” Shapiro said. “We’ll have more on it than anyone else in town.”
