255 radio and television executives and celebrities gathered in New York City Monday night for the Broadcasters Foundation of America Golden Mike Gala hosted by Soledad O’Brien.
Jack Abernethy, the CEO of FOX television stations, was honored with the 2023 Golden Mike Award at the event.
“Broadcasting is about service,” Abernethy said. “We need to take care of our own.”
Abernethy added that he is “proud and humbled to be part of this great tradition of broadcasting.”
The 2023 Lifetime Achievement Award was bestowed upon former FCC Chairman, Commissioner, and General Counsel Richard E. Wiley.
“No one has ever regretted knowing Dick Wiley,” Emmis Communications Chairman and CEO Jeff Smulyan said.
Smulyan continued by lauding Wiley for his influence in Washington, saying “They value your advice, but more than that, they value your friendship.”
The Broadcasters Foundation of American helps those in the broadcast industry who are facing need, whether illness, natural disaster, or another catastrophe. The foundation will give out more than $2 million in assistance this calendar year.
