Longtime CBS World News Roundup Anchor Bill Lynch Dies

Bill Lynch, who anchored CBS News Radio’s World News Roundup from 1985 to 1999, died earlier this week.

After serving in the United States Army during the time of the Vietnam War, Lynch worked as a reporter at WCBS in New York beginning in 1971 before being promoted to Assistant Director of News Operations and Programs in 1973.

From there, he joined CBS News in 1981, before ascending to the role of World News Roundup anchor in 1985.

A native of Salina, Kansas, Lynch anchored World News Roundup — which recently celebrated its 85th anniversary — as it entered the Radio Hall of Fame in 1995.

“His booming voice and punchy writing style set him apart,” said current World News Roundup anchor Steve Kathan said in a prepared statement released by CBS News Radio. “He read and knew so much about so many issues and so many places. Bill Lynch was an influence on me and so many others who aimed to do what he could do.”
