It’s been two years since former Boston Celtics star Paul Pierce was fired by ESPN, and Pierce still kind of feels like he got canned over really nothing.
In an appearance on the I Am Athlete podcast this week, Pierce talked about the videos he posted on social media that ultimately got him terminated.
“I got fired for what?” Pierce said. “I got fired for having some entertainment. I’m playing cards, it’s my boy’s birthday, it’s girls dancing, and I’m blowing some trees. What did I do wrong?”
The videos got added attention because Pierce said he did something he normally doesn’t do, go live.
“I was just feeling my cut or something,” he said. “Then it was popping behind me.”
Paul also talked about getting a phone call from ESPN higher ups where it was revealed they were launching an investigation into his actions.
“I didn’t do nothing illegal,” he said, further explaining that it was ultimately Disney making the call to terminate under the company’s morality clause in his contract.
“They just said it was immoral,” he said.
This is not the first time Pierce has spoken publicly about his firing. He has repeatedly said that he is not sorry for what happened and mentioned that he felt he was on his way out from ESPN at the time anyway.
