Meghan Ottolini Blames Red Sox Radio Booth For Harassment From Fans on Twitter

WEEI host Meghan Ottolini found herself taking a few shots from Boston Red Sox fans on Twitter on Friday thanks in part to the official account of the WEEI Red Sox Network.

Earlier on Friday’s edition of Jones & Mego, Ottolini expressed her irritation with Sox fans who were using a recent winning streak to try and dunk on those who thought Boston wasn’t going to be very good this year. She asked if fans could at least wait until the end of June or the all-star break in July to start saying who was wrong.

The Red Sox Network Twitter quote tweeted a clip of Mego’s comments on Friday afternoon, seeming to call Ottolini out.

Later on the show, Ottolini mentioned she was receiving some less-than-kind comments from some in Red Sox Nation.

“WEEI Red Sox Booth got everybody all riled up,” Mego said. “They’re mad at me.”

Ottolini said she has her suspicions as to who it was running the Red Sox Network account that called her out, but she stood by her comments that fans needed to pump the brakes.

“It’s a little early for the victory lap, sorry. No I’m not sorry, actually,” she said. “I apologize for absolutely nothing!”

Jones came to the support of Ottolini.

“Don’t let the Sox booth box you around,” he said. “If you want to go at the fans, go at the fans.”

Mego didn’t appear too fazed by some of the hate she was getting on Twitter, joking that she was not the victim of reverse bullying.

“I said something inflammatory, and now they’re bullying me,” she said.

After the Red Sox extended their winning streak to seven games in Philadelphia on Friday night, the Red Sox booth account seemed to pour it on.

Boston made it eight in a row on Saturday before losing the series finale against the Phillies on Sunday. The Red Sox are in fourth place in the division, six games above .500 and hold the third wild card spot in the American League.
