On Monday, media outlets of all kinds picked up Bill Belichick’s interview with WEEI. He will appear weekly on The Greg Hill Show during the season. The first appearance made headlines not for anything that the Patriots’ coach said about football, but instead for how he feels about Taylor Swift.
He admitted that after watching the superstar perform a 3 hour show in a rain storm, he was won over. He called her “impressive” and “pretty tough.”
Co-host Courtney Cox asked the coach if he had any favorite Taylor Swift songs.
“Look, I’m definitely on the, ‘you’ve got to calm down,'” Belichick said. “That’s pretty good. You’ve got to calm down. There’s a lot of times when that’s very appropriate.”
On Tuesday, Cox reflected on the way the clip spread around TV and the internet.
“I mean, is there anything better for this show? We get trashed constantly day-in, day-out, whether it’s the Twitchers, the text line, who we love dearly, saying ‘talk sports! Sports, sports, sports!’” She said. “Then we ask a Taylor Swift question and that’s what gets picked up .”
Hill pointed out that Belichick’s praise for Tom Brady and what him coming back to Foxboro will mean to the team and the NFL got picked up as well. There is no denying though that the headline was the coach’s feelings about Taylor Swift.
“It broke the interwebs yesterday,” he said.
