The President of the NAB wants some action from Congress. Curtis LeGeyt is set to present written testimony today that will advocate for more actions that benefit broadcasters.
“For broadcasters to continue our unique service to your constituents, television and radio stations must remain economically viable in a highly competitive marketplace,” he writes.
His testimony includes requests for action on the AM for Every Vehicle Act and reforms to the FCC that would update ownership rules.
He also lobbies congress to reinstate the diversity tax certificate program. The program existed for 17 years between 1978 and 1995. Through tax credits, minority ownership of stations increased by more than 450% during that time.
“Modernizing ownership regulations also makes broadcasting more desirable for potential investors and new entrants, ensuring continued investment and encouraging greater diversity in local broadcasting and content,” he writes.
