A Florida law mandating that books with sexual themes or content be removed from public school libraries was recently used to review whether or not books authored by Bill O’Reilly should still be available to students. Sean Hannity told the former Fox News host he’d help return the non-fiction works back to the shelves.
In addition to books authored by O’Reilly, other works written by the likes of John Grisham and Stephen King were also removed, with The Diary of Anne Frank being placed under review.
While appearing on The Sean Hannity Show, O’Reilly admitted the law is a good one, but is being used for superfluous reasons in an attempt to damage conservative authors. He then took aim at Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) for not helping return his books to the shelves, saying those inside the governor’s administration did not care about the situation. He went on to say DeSantis has no chance to win the presidency in 2024, and his view of the governor has been reshaped.
That’s when Hannity offered to step in and see if he could rectify the situation.
“You know what it’s like with these campaigns. These candidates, it’s like they have a fire hose going down their throat. They’re gulping water. We work in a business where we often gulp water, and you got to prioritize what you’re doing now,” Hannity rebutted. “With all that said, it shouldn’t have happened. I would imagine after any fair objective analysis, that your book will be returned — rightly so — to the library. The same with Anne Frank. I would assume the same with Grisham and Stephen King, I would assume all of that.
“And I — on your behalf, with your permission — would like to reach out to people that I know will get the message to the governor, because I would bet pretty much everything I have this did not hit his desk,” Sean Hannity continued. “He was not informed of all of this, what you’re describing. That’s my guess, right? I’m not being a special pleading for the governor. I just know him. And it’s not his style. That is not how he rolls…Let me see if I can help you. I’d be glad to do it with your permission and I think I can get a result for you.”
