After 12 years, NBC News correspondent Harry Smith will depart the network.
Smith reported for NBC Nightly News, Today, and other properties for NBC during his tenure with the network.
After departing the network, Smith will join the faculty at Central College in Pella, Iowa, his alma mater.
“We are absolutely ecstatic to announce (Harry Smith) ‘73 will be returning to Central College as an executive in residence Fall 2024! We can’t wait for our students to learn and benefit from his heart for others and extensive experience at (NBC News),” the college wrote on social media.
As he departed the network, he was celebrated by Today, with a montage of some of his best work with the outlet.
“I have nothing but gratitude,” Harry said. “Every time I would always come on this show, I was always welcomed so generously. I’ve had just this unbelievable array of phenomenal experiences since coming to NBC, and so I’m really full of nothing but gratitude. Every time I’ve come on, everyone would drop their phones, pay attention to the story and then respond.”
