Chris Brown Named New Play-By-Play Voice of the Buffalo Bills on WGR 550

"We look forward to Chris carrying the torch of the legends this job has produced in Van Miller and John Murphy.”

Audacy and WGR 550 have named Chris Brown as the new radio play-by-play announcer for Buffalo Bills football broadcasts. Brown was the interim announcer last season and at the end of the 2022 season after longtime voice John Murphy suffered a stroke. Murphy called Bills games for 35 years but announced he would step back from his position in May.

Brown joined WGR in 1997 covering the Bills beat. In 2006 he began co-hosting One Bills LIVE with Steve Taker and became the host of the show in 2020. He will continue those duties in his new official role, hosting the show weekdays at 1:00 p.m. ET.

“Chris is best suited to carry on the long tradition of informative, passionate and entertaining Bills play-by-play announcing,” said Tim Wenger, Senior Vice President and Market Manager, Audacy Buffalo in a release. “His decades-long knowledge of the organization will be invaluable as he assumes the play-by-play microphone.”

“I was fortunate enough to know Van Miller and John Murphy and worked with them and learned from them,” said Brown. “I’m grateful to be trusted with this responsibility going forward.”

“Chris has been doing the job at an extremely high level for parts of the past two seasons along with Eric Wood and Sal Capaccio,” said Pete Guelli, Chief Operating Officer, Buffalo Bills. “He has strong institutional knowledge of our team while also understanding the pulse of our fans. We look forward to Chris carrying the torch of the legends this job has produced in Van Miller and John Murphy.”

Brown will work with color analyst Eric Wood and sideline reporter Sal Capaccio.
