Brandon Tierney to Fill In for Suzyn Waldman in New York Yankees Radio Booth on WFAN

"Just certain things no matter how big you dream you just don't think that the world's big enough for that to actually happen so that's why I really do use the word humbled."

As the New York Yankees continue their quest to win the American League East, the rotating cast of characters in their radio broadcast booth continues. Earlier this year, John Sterling surprised everyone by announcing his retirement after the season had already started. This made 2024 a year when several different voices have been heard working with Sterling’s old partner Suzyn Waldman. Now, add WFAN host Brandon Tierney to the list, however he won’t be working with Waldman, he will be filling in for her.

Tierney took to social media and posted on X, “Honored and humbled (and pumped!!) to join the long and distinguished lineage of NYY radio voices as I fill in for Suzyn Waldman in the broadcast booth tonight and tomorrow in the Bronx. Looking forward to having some fun with Justin Shackil and the crew!”

Tierney, who hosts middays with Sal Licata on WFAN, jumped on at the beginning of today’s show and explained how this came about and his feelings about the assignment.

“The Yankees presented me with this amazing, humbling opportunity, and I know that Suzyn’s a bit under the weather. So I guess if I said it on the radio enough and wondered why they were giving everybody a chance to get in the booth but me, I guess they finally listened. I’m getting to do the Yankee game tonight with Justin Shackil and tomorrow as well. So, I’m pumped.”

“Wow congratulations, man,” Licata said. “I’m happy for you, and I’ll tell you this, I’ve learned something from you in our year plus together now, persistence pays off! Kicking and screaming and begging and yelling and here it is now you get the opportunity to be in that Yankee booth. Have you thought about that? … How great is that?”

BT replied, “I’ve dreamt big man, and I’m not trying to overstate this. I mean I’m gonna be in for two games. It’s Suzyn’s booth. She’s a Hall of Famer. She’s amazing. But if you told me when I was 10 or when I was 12, emulating Don Mattingly in the backyard…Just certain things no matter how big you dream you just don’t think that the world’s big enough for that to actually happen so that’s why I really do use the word humbled. And you know the Yankees had to sign-off on this. So, I’m very thankful for them.”
