Salem Radio Network host Mike Gallagher is a Tampa-area resident. He packed up and headed to New York City to host his nationally syndicated radio show as Hurricane Milton made its way to Florida, and he says he’s uncertain when he’ll return.
To open his show Thursday morning after Milton made landfall, Gallagher shared that he’s almost certain something catastrophic happened at his Florida home after receiving messages that his generator had failed.
“On a personal note, I’m a little emotional about my possessions, my home. I have no idea what condition my home is in,” Gallagher admitted. “Regrettably, the whole-house generator that I purchased just a year or so ago, never been used, it was all set to go and had a massive failure at 11:30 last night. I don’t know what it means. I’m sitting in the hotel room here in New York City, watching, wondering, waiting … So something bad happened.
“I don’t know if it was flooded. I don’t know if the house is standing. Of course, the cameras went out as soon as the wifi went out. So I don’t know. But I keep telling myself, it’s stuff. I’m blessed, I’m lucky, I’m insured. I’ve got the means to recover. I don’t know what I’m going to return to, or when I’m going to return.”
Gallagher added that AM 860 The Answer and AM 930 The Answer — the Salem Media Group stations in Tampa and Sarasota, respectively — are both off the air after the storm slammed the area.
As noted, The Mike Gallagher Show host is currently based in New York hosting his Salem Radio Network show until it is safe and feasible for him to return to Florida.
