A U.S. Senator from 1995 to 2007, Santorum ran for President in 2012, winning 11 states including the Iowa caucus. The now 66-year-old also launched a campaign for the 2016 Republican nomination but dropped out of the race and endorsed Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL).

After the 2016 race, Santorum joined CNN, where he remained until his 2021 departure.

During his time in the Senate, he served as chairman of the Senate Republican Conference, making him the third-ranking member of the party’s leadership.
