Brock Huard will be departing FOX Sports coverage of college football as he takes on a coaching position with his son’s high school football team. Huard, who has worked at the network since 2019 after a stint at ESPN, has been collaborating alongside play-by-play announcer Jason Benetti and reporter Allison Williams on the No. 2 announcing team. In addition, Huard is working on coverage of the UFL for FOX Sports and hosting his Brock and Salk radio show in morning drive on Seattle Sports 710 AM. News of Huard departing FOX Sports was first reported by Ryan Glasspiegel of Front Office Sports.
“I’m going to learn a lot of football,” Huard said during a recent appearance on the Real Hawk Talk podcast. “I told him, for 18 years I’ve been in reaction mode. So much of my radio show, so much on game day. Yeah, I project, and I try to see how the game’s unfolding. But most of it is just reacting. [I’m] kind of excited and anxious to see what it’s like on the other side, to prepare, to be in ‘go mode’ from the coaching end of it and learn a lot. I think I’ll be a better broadcaster, I think the radio show will be better.”
Although Huard will be leaving the college football announcing booth, he is still keeping “the door open” to potentially do NFL games. Huard played six seasons in the NFL with the Seattle Seahawks, Indianapolis Colts and Seattle Seahawks, and he previously called games within the league for FOX Sports in 2020. Before that time, he was a college football quarterback for the University of Washington where he played for four seasons.
“I’d like to still do [announcing] down the road, but for these years, these formative years, my son’s going to be a sophomore,” Huard said. “These are years I’ll never, ever, ever get back, and I’m going to jump into it.”
Huard has been hosting on Seattle Sports 710 AM since 2009 and has primarily worked with Mike Salk in three different stints together. Before he started appearing on ESPN coverage as the Seahawks made a Super Bowl run in 2005, he ventured into a post-playing career working in real-estate development. Huard has continued his radio program concurrent with the college football season, including hosting Friday editions of Brock and Salk on the road.
