KFBK afternoon host Tom Sullivan is set to retire later this spring. The iHeartMedia Sacramento news/talk station didn’t have to look far for his replacement, as morning host Sam Shane will move to the daypart.
Shane has worked at KFBK since 2019. He previously worked in television with stops in both Sacramento and San Francisco, in addition to working at MSNBC.
“I’m humbled and honored to be taking over the time slot occupied by Tom Sullivan at KFBK, a radio station with a rich history of producing superior news/talk programs,” said Shane. “Never have I enjoyed producing and delivering a program more than these last six years as I have co-hosted the morning news show on KFBK with Cristina Mendonsa. I’m very proud of our accomplishments and grateful for the opportunity to have worked with Cristina and everyone behind the scenes who made it happen. Now it’s on to a new chapter.”
Mendonsa will now be paired with Mark Demsky in morning drive. Desmky joined the station in February of last year after spending nearly two decades in local television in the California capital. He has previous radio experience after working at crosstown Sactown Sports 1140 from 2001 to 2009.
“This next chapter is about helping listeners wake up to what really matters, stories that affect their lives,” Mendonsa said of the changes to the station’s morning show. “After 30 years in journalism and a multi-generational connection to Northern California, our goal is to bring listeners smart, relevant news with a balanced perspective, cutting through the noise to bring more insight.”
Tom Sullivan’s final day with KFBK is currently scheduled for Friday, May 30th. Sam Shane will take over the 12-3 PM timeslot on Monday, June 2nd.

Congrats Sam on your new time slot. Sure Tom will be missed. Yet change is the only constant & hence we will always need fresh ideas, material. All I ask? Would like to hear something about 1970’s rather than the 1960’s, on occasion.😊

I’m thrilled to hear you’ll be taking over for Tom. I love listening to you and Christina in the morning. In fact, I was going to call KFBK and request that your show could start later in the morning to fit my listening schedule. Lo!!!
Will miss Tom all the best to Tom and his podcast adventure.
