Former 1190 WOWO host Ron Gregory has died at the age of 77, the Fort Wayne news/talk radio station has announced.

“Across the years, Ron Gregory’s smooth delivery and genuine love for broadcasting made him an icon and truly a Legend of WOWO. His listeners remember meeting him in public and recall how friendly he always was,” the station said in a statement after Gregory’s passing. “We at WOWO are grateful for the legacy that Ron Gregory built, and we will miss him.”

The station paid tribute to the longtime host on Monday’s episode of Fort Wayne’s Morning News, labeling him a “WOWO Legend.”

Chris Roberts, a former colleague of Ron Gregory, told WANE 15 in Fort Wayne that Gregory was a MENSA member and lived in the same apartment complex in the city for nearly 50 years.

“I don’t take sadness from this,” Roberts — who now owns 1220 WERT in 99.7 WKSD in Ohio — said of his former colleague. “I take a sense of gratitude for having known him and worked with him. To me, he’ll always be alive. Every time I hear a bad joke or pun or some other extremely clever type of witticism, I’ll think of Ron Gregory.”
