Chad Millman, a pioneer in sports gambling media and co-founder of Action Network, is taking on a larger role at Colin Cowherd’s podcast network, The Volume. Millman will launch a new betting show, Sharp or Square, that debuts today across audio and video platforms.
The program will air four times weekly, with episodes on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Additionally, there are two shows every Sunday during football season. One airs in the morning before NFL kickoffs and another in the evening. Joining Millman on the new project is gambling analyst Simon Hunter, who previously worked with him at Action Network.
The duo is no stranger to working together. Millman and Hunter co-hosted The Favorites at The Volume. That show is being replaced in favor of the new format and feeds for Sharp or Square.
Millman’s move comes just days after he publicly announced his resignation from The Action Network, a company he co-founded in 2017 with support from The Chernin Group. Action Network quickly grew into one of the most recognized brands in sports betting media before being acquired in 2021 by Better Collective.
At ESPN, Millman established himself as one of the earliest voices in mainstream sports media to give gambling coverage a serious platform. During his tenure, he served as editor-in-chief of ESPN The Magazine and ESPN.com.
For The Volume, adding Sharp or Square bolsters an expanding lineup that has become a mix of sports, personalities, and culture. The network already features shows with Nick Wright, Draymond Green, Richard Sherman, Daniel Cormier, Sophie Cunningham, John Middlekauff, and Jason Timpf. Cowherd himself hosts a podcast, and the company has branched out further into entertainment content. For example, there is Joe and Jada featuring Fat Joe and Jadakiss, as well as New Rory & Mal.
Cowherd’s network has aimed to differentiate itself in the crowded podcasting space by recruiting established voices with loyal followings. Adding a betting veteran like Millman fits the model. It simultaneously gives the platform a bigger foothold in an increasingly competitive sports wagering content market.
