Craig Carton is back for his third stint at WFAN, leaving Brandon Tierney and Sal Licata without a timeslot on the station. He acknowledges his role in that.
In his first public comments since the news was officially confirmed, Carton said everyone else in the business has had a situation to opine on the situation except for him.
He did note, however, that he does feel for Brandon Tierney and Sal Licata, who will exit the daytime lineup.
“It was too good an opportunity for me to say no to,” Carton admitted. “I am very respectful and sensitive to the fact that there are other people in that building that are losing their jobs, some as a direct result of my return, some for other reasons altogether. And I appreciate how tough it is for them and their families, and I’m very sensitive to that. There’s nothing I can say about it, other than you’re very talented, and I truly hope that you land on your feet and get another amazing opportunity in your chosen profession.
“That being said, I’m thrilled for the opportunity. I can’t wait to get started,” he added.
The return of Carton moves the station’s current afternoon show — featuring Evan Roberts and Tiki Barber — to middays, where Brandon Tierney and Sal Licata currently host.
On Thursday, Tierney shared that his and Licata’s final show together would be on Friday. Tierney would then host the 10 AM-2 PM timeslot by himself during the week of December 15th, before exiting WFAN entirely.
Sal Licata, meanwhile, has not publicly shared his next moves. Noticeably, WFAN has yet to announce plans for its overnight show. Licata has previously worked in that daypart for the station before his elevation in the lineup.

Definitely right. Like anything else, it’s a business decision WFAN made. You can listen or not, but we don’t need negativity.
I have been listening to wfan since July 1987 religiously for a minimum of 18 hours day and night. I I know the history of the station better than most. I have already found that sports radio station out of Hartford CT will suffice my listening needs during the afternoon hours. I do not know what OR WHY the management of WFAN IS SO ENAMORED WITH CRAIG CARTON!
BIG BIG MISTAKE.!!!!!!!!! BRANDON AND SAL was real good PURE sports talk! If you want to go back and bring back former host go sign JODI MAC !!!! HE WAS AND STILL IS a wonderfully entertaining knowledgeable and likable host!!! YOU ALSO MIGHT WANT TO THINK About TEAMING UP UP THE woman that does Sunday shows with one of a couple other woman hosts. They are very knowledgeable and professional hosts.
Again as far as Carton is concerned I am done listening now in the afternoon drive hours.
I would appreciate a response….After all I am a 38 year listener minimum of 18/ hours per day!
