Jason McCourty just leveled up. ESPN has promoted him to analyst on Monday Night Countdown, filling the chair Ryan Clark left after ESPN’s latest layoffs.
What We Know: McCourty joins Monday Night Countdown as an analyst starting this September. He’s spent the past two years across ESPN’s top studio shows, including NFL Live, Get Up, First Take and SportsCenter. Before television, McCourty played 13 NFL seasons at cornerback for the Titans, Browns, Patriots and Dolphins after starring at Rutgers. He won Super Bowl LIII with New England before retiring in 2021 and moving into broadcasting.
What They Said: Jason McCourty (via X): “Humbled and honored to join an elite squad! The most important thing to me is everyone watches Devin McCourty on Sunday then watch on Monday to see the better twin.”
What Remains Unclear: ESPN hasn’t whether McCourty will scale back appearances on NFL Live, Get Up or First Take. Additionally, no word yet on who might fill any resulting gaps in ESPN’s daily NFL rotation.
What It Means: McCourty’s elevation is the right choice for ESPN. The network chose to promote from within rather than chase an outside replacement for Clark or shift anyone over from NFL Network with no familiarity with the ESPN audience. That move signals confidence in McCourty’s growth since 2024 and reinforces the network’s deep bench. It also sets up a natural sibling storyline, since twin brother Devin McCourty holds his own broadcasting role. McCourty signed a new multi-year extension in June.
