Inside Liz Claman’s New Friday Night Show on Fox Business Network

“Just looking backwards helps nobody. Things have already happened. By Friday, you’ve got a week’s worth of market moves, big corporate bets, surprises, some spectacular missteps and real issues with the markets, which we saw starting around Tuesday and Wednesday. It even goes back to Monday, and there are reasons for that.”

For years, Fox Business Network host Liz Claman has guided viewers through the market’s most important hour. Now she’s pushing them to look beyond the closing bell.

Last week, Claman launched Claman’s Power Players, a weekly wrap-up built on a simple idea: Hindsight alone isn’t enough.

“I can tell you, I’m levitating,” said Claman after the show’s debut. “It is so great because I’ve always been that person on a Friday night who wants to either watch a show or DVR a show that wraps up the week. When you miss something, you’re missing an opportunity to make money in your portfolio. So we put an exclamation point, if you will, on the business week, but also a question mark on what comes next.”

Claman still anchors The Claman Countdown weekdays from 3-4 PM ET. Meanwhile, Claman’s Power Players airs Fridays from 7-7:30 PM ET. As a result, she now covers the market’s final hour and the week’s biggest stories.

Why Looking Ahead Matters

The show’s Coming Catalysts segment puts that philosophy in action. Market gurus use it to flag what might move stocks next — whether it’s an earnings report, an economic data point or a Federal Reserve speech. Claman called that forward view critical.

“Just looking backwards helps nobody,” Claman shared. “Things have already happened. By Friday, you’ve got a week’s worth of market moves, big corporate bets, surprises, some spectacular missteps and real issues with the markets, which we saw starting around Tuesday and Wednesday. It even goes back to Monday, and there are reasons for that.”

Last week’s market turbulence supplied a clear example.

“It was over the weekend that a Chinese memory chip maker announced it had made a breakthrough in packing more data onto tinier chips,” the Fox Business Network host said. “That completely swamped U.S. and South Korean chipmakers on Monday, and it kind of hasn’t stopped. So you want to look at all of that, point it out and then spin it forward.”

How the New Show Differs

Naturally, viewers might wonder how Claman’s Power Players avoids repeating The Claman Countdown. She points to timing and scope.

“My 3 PM show is the final hour of trade,” said Claman. “It’s the moment that matters when it comes to the markets. It’s going to be a shade different. With Power Players, as the week winds down, the biggest business stories are just getting started, so we’re able to really spin that forward. We’re going beyond the earnings releases and the reaction in the stock, which is what we would do at 3 o’clock in that final hour. We’re going beyond that to the bigger questions.”

Those bigger questions include what companies are building, what they’re betting on and what could go wrong. Ultimately, Claman wants the show to feel essential.

“It’s got to be must-see TV, with apologies to Seinfeld,” Claman shared. “You’re going to miss stuff during your day, and it’s really important that we tease out and dig out the most important points from the week and how they affected the rest of the trading week.”

The Debut and the Takeaway

The first episode followed that formula. Claman interviewed Lumentum CEO Michael Hurlston, UBS Managing Director and Senior Portfolio Manager Jason Katz, Empower Chief Investment Strategist Marta Norton and Insilico Medicine Founder and CEO Alex Zhavoronkov.

“Without what they make, which is optical transceivers, data centers don’t move data,” said Claman. “I find that really interesting. His product is sold out until 2029. We were also able to ask him about the bond market and the yield spike this week making borrowing way more expensive. He gave some really good insight, and that’s what we want from these guys: major insight.”

Furthermore, Claman resurfaced a Taiwan Semiconductor CFO interview that aired early in the day on Fox Business Network.

“I said, ‘Let’s take the most important piece out of that and bring it up, because it matters,’” the Fox Business Network host said. “I know a lot of people missed that interview, but it will help them going forward. If I missed it, a lot of other people missed it.”

Finally, she wants viewers to keep their weekends.

“In this day and age, when we can all DVR or tape something off YouTube TV, I want people to not say, ‘Oh, I can’t go out to dinner with my wife or my boyfriend, because I’ve got to watch this show,’” Claman shared. “It runs four times over the weekend as well. It will help you get your head and your portfolio together going forward, not backwards.”

Claman’s Power Players airs Fridays from 7-7:30 PM ET on Fox Business Network.
