Tom Brady cursed on live FOX television again Sunday. It marked the second time this season the legendary quarterback-turned-broadcaster let an expletive slip on air.
What We Know: Brady joined Drew Brees for a trivia segment on Fox NFL Sunday. The pair tried to name the quarterback ranked third behind them in major statistical categories. However, Brady gave an incorrect answer and immediately blurted out “oh s***” on live television. He quickly realized his mistake, but the studio desk had already heard it clearly and thus had a laugh or two following the slip.
What’s At Stake: Being this is the second time Brady has slipped up on national television, broadcast over the air television is monitored by the FCC for foul language. If the incident is reported to the FCC, the commission could warrant an investigation. If it finds a station in violation of its rules, it has the authority to revoke a station license, impose a fine or issue an admonishment or warning.
What Remains Unclear: This was not Brady’s first slip this season. In Week 2, he said the same phrase from the booth after seeing Jayden Daniels dislocate his left elbow. Afterward, Brady apologized, saying he “was not expecting to see that.” Still, it remains unclear whether FOX will address a repeat issue with its lead analyst.
What It Means: Brady has steadily improved as a broadcaster since joining FOX Sports. Nevertheless, live television leaves little room for reflexive reactions like this one. Next, he calls the Detroit Lions vs. Minnesota Vikings game. As a result, viewers will be listening closely for any more language slips in the booth.
