As the Speaker of the House position remains open, Fox News is capitalizing on the vacancy by featuring a forum between potential candidates next week.
Bret Baier will moderate what is being referred to by Fox News as a “joint interview” between Republican candidates Steve Scalise (LA), Jim Jordan (OH), and Kevin Hern (OK). The event will be held at the U.S. Capitol.
The “joint interview” will be closed to other media outlets, with no reporters being allowed in the room.
The interview will air on Special Report Monday at 6 PM ET ahead of the vote for who should be elected to the position on Tuesday.
Baier, host of Special Report, has a long history of moderating debates and large interviews. He worked alongside Fox News anchor Martha MacCallum to moderate the first 2024 Republican Presidential debate earlier this year. He also went toe-to-toe with former President Donald Trump in an at-times contentious interview in August.
The need for the debate comes after Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) pushed for the removal of Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) earlier this week. After initially welcoming the challenge due to his belief he would survive and retain his position, McCarthy was ousted, making it the first time in American history a Speaker of the House was removed. The vote marked only the second time in history a vote was taken to expunge the Speaker.
