Dianna Russini is a star. Damon Amendolara said that Peter King erased any doubt of that with his most recent “Football Morning in America” column.
“You’re so big that Peter King is writing about how much you make,” he told Russini on Friday’s edition of The DA Show on CBS Sports Radio. “That’s how you know you’ve made it.”
King wrote that the Athletic hired Russini away from ESPN “to be a subscription magnet.” He also wrote that the reporter “will almost certainly make more money than Maggie Haberman or David Brooks—Times legends—and, crazily, might earn more than them combined.”
“I was shocked he went with that angle,” Russini admitted. “I thought there was a lot more meat to the bone than that.”
She added that she isn’t sure where King got any information he may have about Rossini’s paycheck.
“I can tell you, the first thing my husband said after he read that was, ‘Did you not share something with me? Are you getting paid a lot more than you were told?’” Russini said.
She added that she is excited for the opportunity that she has with The Athletic. She didn’t leave ESPN simply for a paycheck and she hopes that isn’t what most people thought after reading King’s column.
“I hope if anyone had that opportunity listening that read the articles, if they even came across it, the take away was more just this really cool opportunity The Athletic is giving me,” she said.
