The company says it is making the move “to keep up with the rising cost of content and the investments we make in the quality of our service.”

“We don’t make these decisions lightly, and we realize this has an impact on our members,” a letter to subscribers from the company stated. “We are committed to bringing you features that are changing the way we watch live TV … and supporting YouTube TV’s breadth of content and vas on-demand library of movies and shows.”

The company added that it hopes “YouTube TV continues to be your service of choice, but we understand that some of our members may want to cancel their subscriptions. As always, family managers have the ability to pause or cancel anytime.”

The move markets the first price hike since March 2023, when the service increased its monthly price from $64.99 to $72.99. When the new prices take effect, YouTube TV will cost 137% more per month than it did when it debuted in 2017 at $34.99. In February, the service revealed it had 8 million monthly subscribers.
