When the inaugural YouTube podcast rankings were released, it was no surprise that The Joe Rogan Experience was in the top spot. But that ranking didn’t last long.
In the second week of the rankings, the popular podcast from Joe Rogan was dethroned by the true crime show Rotten Mango. The Joe Rogan Experience finished second for the week of May 12th, followed by 48 Hours, Kill Tony, and Law&Crime Sidebar with Jesse Weber.
During the week in question, Rogan’s podcast featured episodes with comedian Tom Segura, Egyptian archaeologist Dr. Zahi Hawass, Harvard science history professor Rebecca Lemov, and Food Network star Guy Fieri.
The traditional talk formatted podcasts saw some slides during the second week of the rankings, being surpassed by true crime shows. The Shawn Ryan Show finished sixth in the rankings, while programs from hosts like Tucker Carlson (12th), Megyn Kelly (15th), Ross Coulthart (16th), and Pat McAfee (17th) finished in the top 20.
YouTube has worked diligently to become a player in the podcast space. The company has seen that come to fruition as more than 1 billion users utilize the service for podcasts each month.
As of January 2025, the company has reached 1 billion monthly active viewers of podcast content. Additionally, more than 400 million hours of podcast content were seen on living room devices monthly in 2024.
