What We Know: Woo joined ESPN in 2023 after nearly a decade at Sports Illustrated. At SI, he built the outlet’s NBA Draft coverage and became a trusted voice in evaluating young talent. At ESPN, he works alongside Jonathan Givony producing mock drafts, prospect rankings, and scouting analysis. He also covers team strategy and personnel trends across the league.
What Remains Unclear: The financial terms of the extension have not been disclosed. Additionally, it’s unknown whether Woo’s role will expand beyond draft coverage into broader NBA reporting.
What It Means: ESPN is doubling down on draft and prospect coverage as competition for that content intensifies. It will be interesting to see if his role expands with his new extension. Woo’s background is extensive, not just in NBA Draft analysis. He contributed to the Emmy-nominated documentary Shot in the Dark (2018), collaborated on Kobe Bryant’s bestseller The Mamba Mentality, and reported from Russia for Grantland. His decade-long track record — from longform features on Ja Morant and Victor Wembanyama to Emmy-nominated documentary work — makes him a rare blend of scout and storyteller.
