What We Know: The Radio Television Digital News Association announced its 2026 National Edward R. Murrow Award winners, recognizing excellence across broadcast and digital journalism. In Large Market Radio, KIRO Newsradio won Best Breaking News Coverage, while 830 WCCO earned Continuing Coverage. KYW Newsradio took home Hard News, and KNX News won Best Newscast. WBUR in Boston also received Overall Excellence.
What’s at Stake: The honors highlight the continued importance of local radio newsrooms as audiences consume information across more platforms. Meanwhile, the Network Radio category produced a notable showing for ABC News, which won Continuing Coverage, Hard News, Podcast, and Sports Reporting. CBS News Radio also captured Overall Excellence and Newscast honors, even though the network ended its radio operation earlier this year.
What Remains Unclear: RTDNA hasn’t yet provided additional details about the winning entries beyond their categories and organizations. The association plans to formally recognize the national winners during its Edward R. Murrow Awards Gala on October 12th at Gotham Hall in New York City.
What It Means: The results give several major radio news operations another significant industry accolade. For CBS News Radio, the recognition also offers a final distinction for a nearly century-old news operation that ended in May. ABC News, meanwhile, continues to demonstrate strength across multiple forms of network radio journalism.
