KDKA Radio host Colin Dunlap has returned to the air after missing eight days because of a medical issue. Dunlap underwent back surgery last week and welcomed the chance to resume his afternoon show.
What We Know: Dunlap underwent surgery on his L4 and L5 vertebrae last week. During the procedure, doctors removed herniated disc material from his back. As a result, the KDKA Radio host missed eight days from his afternoon program. He returned to the air Wednesday and resumed his regular duties. However, Dunlap acknowledged that his recovery remains ongoing as he gets back into his routine. The longtime Pittsburgh radio personality also indicated that he may approach his show differently while his back continues to heal.
What They Said: “I’ll be getting around slower, am still beat up some and will most likely stand for my show moving forward … but happy to get back.” -Colin Dunlap
What Remains Unclear: Dunlap didn’t provide a specific timetable for his full recovery or explain when he expects to return completely to normal. His decision to stand during the program could become part of his temporary routine while he manages the lingering effects of the procedure.
What It Means: Dunlap’s return gives KDKA Radio its afternoon host back after more than a week away. Moreover, his willingness to return while still recovering shows his desire to get back in front of listeners. Although he isn’t fully recovered, Dunlap’s return provides some good news for the station and its audience. He’ll now continue the recovery process while remaining on the air.
