Aaron Flint’s bid for Montana’s 1st Congressional District has fallen short despite backing from President Donald Trump. The former AM 1450 KMMS host lost to Democrat Sam Forstag.
What We Know: Flint, who left Townsquare Media’s AM 1450 KMMS earlier this year to pursue elected office, sought to replace retiring Rep. Ryan Zinke (R-MT). He secured Trump’s endorsement and won the Republican primary in June. However, according to Decision Desk HQ, Forstag defeated Flint with 51.45% of the vote to Flint’s 45.78%. The contest also marked the first Montana congressional race in more than 30 years that didn’t feature two Baby Boomers.
What’s at Stake: Forstag’s victory gives Democrats a win in a district that had been represented by Zinke. Meanwhile, Flint’s defeat ends his first bid for federal office. His campaign had attracted national attention following Trump’s endorsement and his background in Montana talk radio.
What Remains Unclear: Aaron Flint hasn’t indicated whether he’ll pursue another political campaign or return to broadcasting. Additionally, the result leaves questions about his professional plans following his departure from Townsquare Media.
What It Means: Flint’s loss demonstrates that a presidential endorsement doesn’t guarantee victory, even in a competitive congressional race. Forstag’s win also represents a generational shift in Montana politics, ending a decades-long pattern in which Baby Boomers faced each other in the state’s congressional contests.
