Jason Campbell To Replace Stan White on Auburn Football Radio Crew

Former Auburn and NFL quarterback Jason Campbell has signed on to become the new color commentator for his alma mater’s football radio broadcasts. He replaces another former Auburn signal caller, Stan White, who announced his retirement last November.

“I would like to thank God for this amazing opportunity to continue doing something I enjoy and love,” Campbell said. “I appreciate the Auburn Sports Network team and Stan for their immediate confidence in me as I move into the analyst role. I know I have incredibly big shoes to fill. It has been a privilege watching and learning from Stan during our time in the booth together. Auburn Family, I look forward to sharing great memories with you alongside the Voice of the Tigers, Andy Burcham, this fall.”

The 41-year-old Campbell was a first round pick of the then-Washington Redskins in the 2005 NFL Draft, playing for five teams during his nine-year career. He joined the Auburn radio crew in 2015 after retiring from the NFL, working as the network’s pregame and halftime analyst.

Campbell becomes the third analyst in the last 43 years for the radio network. Former Auburn quarterback Charlie Trotman worked in the role from 1980-2000, before being succeeded by Stan White.

“Stan has given the last 22 years of his life, in part, to Auburn football and the Auburn Sports Network,” Auburn radio voice Andy Burcham said in a statement. “He has become one of the top analysts, not only in the SEC, but in the country. I thank Stan for his outstanding work and his friendship. He will be missed with our crew and the Auburn Family. We are excited about the next chapter in Jason Campbell’s radio career. He was the overwhelming choice to replace Stan in the booth.”

Jon Marks: ‘Chris Simms Sounds So Silly’

Chris Simms is not a fan of Jalen Hurts. Despite the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback accounting for three touchdowns and outplaying Daniel Jones in the team’s Divisional Round win over the New York Giants, Simms is adamant that Jones is the better quarterback.

“He can do some of the things that Jalen Hurts can,” Simms said recently on his Unbuttoned podcast. “Maybe not as good a runner, but we know it’s really close. It’s not like ‘Woah! Way better’. If you’re gonna ask me who I would rather have as a passer, I’d rather have Daniel Jones.”

Those comments did not go unnoticed by Marks & Reese on 94 WIP in Philadelphia. On Tuesday, Jon Marks said that the Football Night in America analyst “sounds so silly” by insisting on not giving Jalen Hurts credit.

“Apparently, he’s so pot-committed that he can’t come off of it,” Marks said. “He remains right there. There’s no reason after watching that game you should still be saying things about Daniel Jones, that he thinks Daniel Jones is a better quarterback than Jalen Hurts or anything like that.”

Marks’ partner Ike Reese pointed out that there is clearly something Chris Simms does not like about Jalen Hurts. In the past, Reese says he has heard Simms say that he would take Minnesota Vikings backup Kellen Mond over Hurts.

He said that anyone that committed to a bit is not going to be swayed. The Eagles winning a Super Bowl with Jalen Hurts under center is the only thing that even stands a chance of changing Chris Simms’s mind.

“That’s the whole thing about being pot-committed to a take,” Reese said. “You’ve got a point until proven wrong.”

Bussin’ With The Boys Headed to Radio Row

After a little public pressure, the NFL has decided that at least one Barstool show is welcome to be a part of Radio Row in Arizona for Super Bowl week. After initially being denied credentials, Will Compton, Taylor Lewan, and their Bussin’ With the Boys podcast have been given everything they need to be a part of media gathering the week before Super Bowl LVII.

Compton made the announcement on Twitter earlier this week.

“Fortunately, the right people got on the phone,” he told Bussin’ With the Boys fans. “I don’t know if somebody nudged Roger in the hallway and was like ‘Hey man, I’m telling you we don’t want to go down this path. We took year ten from him. Let’s not be taking away his media credential.’”

J.P. Hovey, the show’s producer, will be a guest next month on The Producers Podcast here on BSM. He told host Brady Farkas that he never doubted how this would end.

“They tried to keep us out. They tried to keep the boys down, but you’ve got to know better when you start to play with us.”

Hovey said that the end result was more than just a product of the dedication of Barstool fans. In his video, Compton credited all of the media outlets that covered the story that two players were told that were not welcome on Radio Row.

“We got the passes. We got the access,” Hovey said. “Roger Goodell, thanks for trying, but you know, it was never in the cards for him.”

Cause of Death for Diamond of ‘Diamond and Silk’ Revealed

The cause of death for Lynette Hardaway — widely known as Diamond of Diamond and Silk — has been revealed as heart disease caused by chronic high blood pressure, according to the death certificate obtained by the Associated Press.

During a memorial service for “President Trump’s most loyal supporter”, Rochelle “Silk” Richardson openly questioned if Diamond had died from the COVID-19 vaccine, saying “many call it a conspiracy theory. I call it murder”.

Silk continued with unsubstantiated claims that “vaccine shedding” played a role in the death of her sister. She claimed Diamond had been “poisoned” after coming in contact with a vaccinated person.

The pair were vehemently opposed to the COVID-19 vaccine, even though former President Trump has taken credit for its creation and implementation. Diamond and Silk were reportedly terminated from Fox News in 2020 after their statements on the legitimacy of COVID-19 data. They questioned “Is this a pandemic or was it a plandemic (sic)? Inquiring minds want to know” during an online event.

Hardaway died unexpectedly earlier this month. She was 51. The duo hosted a weekend show — Diamond and Silk Crystal Clear — on Newsmax after their tenure on Fox News concluded.

They rose to prominence for their ardent support of former President Trump, who said at the time of Diamond’s death “her big and precious heart just plain gave out”. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in United States.

Candace Owens: Steven Crowder ‘Acting Out of Desperation’

The ongoing feud between conservative pundit Steven Crowder and The Daily Wire has reached a new level after host Candace Owens alluded to Crowder having some unpublicized issues.

After publicly declining a purported $50 million offer from the conservative digital outlet, Crowder has clashed with the company’s Co-CEO Jeremy Boreing, founder Ben Shapiro, and host Owens for his conduct in rejecting the offer. Monday, Owens insinuated Crowder has some skeletons in his closet that he’s hiding.

“Over the weekend, I was given a lot more information regarding Steven Crowder regarding what could have possibly led to this moment,” Owens said.

“Obviously, this really doesn’t have anything to do with The Daily Wire, and his actions are a symptom of something much larger. And I want to choose my words very carefully here because I’m not angry anymore. Steven has a lot going on, I guess is the best way to say it. He has a lot going on, and that should be clear because people don’t do stuff like this.”

Owens continued by saying Crowder is acting “out of desperation”, before saying “I now am more aware of certain information rather than being angry, I would like to implore my audience and everybody that isn’t paying attention in this situation not to condemn him, but to pray for him.”

She later said she was “certain” that “more information will come out” about Crowder “in the near future”. She claimed it wasn’t her place to say more on the matter, but seemingly threatened to release more information should Crowder’s current conduct continue.

On Tuesday, Owens continued to discuss Crowder, comparing his conduct to that of a “socialist”, before saying an apology was warranted.

“And I think that I would hope that you would come to terms with the fact that you owe everybody an apology. That this was never necessary and that you can start whatever company you want.”

Fred Roggin Retiring From Local TV, Continuing Show on AM 570 LA Sports

After 42 years, Fred Roggin is stepping away from the local television scene.

Roggin’s final day with Los Angeles’ Channel 4 is Thursday. He told the Los Angeles Times while he’s still interested in doing some television production work, he’s reached the end of his time as a local sports anchor.

“I realized dreams I didn’t know I had,” said Roggin. “I’ve been the luckiest and most blessed guy in the world.”

Roggin will continue to host Roggin & Rodney with former USC and NFL quarterback Rodney Peete. The show airs from 12:00-3:00 PM PT on AM 570 LA Sports.

The 65-year-old told the Times the decreased priority of local sportscasts on local television is part of the reason for his departure. He noted changes in the way viewers consume news coverage has changed his position.

“That’s not how local sports is approached around the country,” Roggin said. “It’s scores and highlights. With all due respect to everyone that does it — and does such a magnificent job — it just doesn’t carry the relevance it used to…That is why you see local sportscasts dying.”

Greg Olsen on Tom Brady FOX Deal: ‘It Sucks, But at the End of the Day, I’m a Big Boy’

Greg Olsen has received nearly universal praise for his work on FOX. A whole new audience learned of his broadcasting skill when he and Kevin Burkhardt were moved into the network’s top NFL booth this season. How long he gets to stay in that booth remains unknown.

FOX signed Tom Brady to a $375 million dollar deal in 2022. When he is finally ready to walk away from the NFL, Brady will go to FOX’s top NFL booth alongside Burkhardt. What that means for Olsen remains unknown.

He was on ESPN 1000’s Waddle & Silvy on Tuesday and was asked what it would take for FOX to keep him in a prominent position when Brady arrives. Marc Silverman even suggested having the GOAT start as low as the number four booth at the network.

“I don’t know if Brady is going to be in the number four booth,” Greg Olsen laughed. “We all know the reality. I know what I signed up for this year.”

Olsen said that his goal has always been to continue to get better and hopefully deliver a fun broadcast. Ideally, that should be enough to keep him in the top booth, especially if the praise continues when he and Burkhardt call the Super Bowl.

In reality, FOX has made a massive investment in Tom Brady, in terms of both time and money. Olsen knows that those commitments matter to the network. All he can do is wait to see what decision Brady makes about his future.

“Listen, if Brady ends up retiring and coming, and decides (to join the FOX booth), and that’s how everything unfolds, it sucks… But at the end of the day, I’m a big boy. I know what I signed up for. I took a chance on myself. I rolled the dice. We’ll see how it plays out.”

While it is widely expected that Tom Brady will not return to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, plenty in the NFL believe that his playing career is not over. Olsen joked that if another team is interested in bringing Tom Brady in, then he is willing to help seal the deal however he can.

“Listen, I hope Brady signs a five-year deal with somebody. I’ll be the first guy there. I’ll give ’em some cap room to make it work.”

Peter Tanz Elevated to Midwest Communications President

Longtime Midwest Communications Market Manager Peter Tanz has been elevated to the role of the company’s President.

Tanz succeeds Duke Wright — the company’s founder — after his death in December. Wright bought his first radio station in 1958 before officially launching Midwest Communications in 1971.

Tanz joined Midwest Communications in 1985 in the sales department of WIXX in Green Bay. He was later promoted to General Manager of the company’s stations in Wausau, Wisconsin. He then led stations throughout the company in several states before returning to Green Bay as the cluster’s Senior Vice President and Market Manager in 2016.

“Peter has worked with and learned the business of broadcasting from Duke for over 35 years,” said Pegge Wright, Midwest Communications chairwoman and widow of Duke Wright. “He is well-respected throughout our company and is the best choice to lead Midwest to future success the way Duke wanted.”

A member of the Small and Medium Market Radio committee with the NAB, Tanz received high praise from his co-workers.

“I am so proud of Peter as our new President,” Midwest Chief Sales Officer Jeff Wright — son of founder Duke Wright — said. “He clearly is the most qualified for this position, and the future of Duke Wright’s Midwest Communications is in confident hands. It goes to show you that you don’t need the ‘Wright’ last name to be part of the family as we have always considered Peter as one of the family.”

Jason Rantz: Seattle Sounders Fans Tried to Get Me Fired

Seattle radio host Jason Rantz said Tuesday that Seattle Sounders fans tried to get him fired from his duties as the team’s pre and post-game host. 

The KTTH host touched on the topic while discussing the organization’s newly minted deal with the Washington-based Providence health system. The medical provider recently agreed on a deal to sponsor the team’s jerseys. 

The Sounders play in the Major Soccer League (MLS). Several years ago, the team played on Seattle’s Bonneville station KIRO Radio 97.3 FM, which also owns KTTH. According to Inside Radio, iHeartMedia’s KJR became the team’s flagship station a few years ago. 

“I know there’s not a single person listening to me right now who cares about soccer,” said Rantz. “And frankly, even when I do cultural stories around soccer and I write them up at KTTH.com, no one really clicks on it, when I tweet it no one gives me a like even though I have almost 110,000 followers because the topic of soccer itself is such a huge turnoff.” 

Rantz said he only continues to write about soccer because he enjoys annoying and trolling some of the club’s fans.

“There is a small group of lunatics and boy did they hate me when I worked for the Sounders on their pre-and post-game show,” Rantz said. “They loathed me. They wanted to get me fired every single time I turned on the microphone and said anything Sounders related, and it brought me such great joy.” 

Rantz stated that the final year the Sounders were at the Bonneville station, he contemplated not continuing with the job due to the extra workload. 

“It was a lot of extra work on top of what I was doing,” he added. “But I decided to stay on because of the haters.”

Megyn Kelly Reacts to Steven Crowder-The Daily Wire Conflict

SiriusXM’s Megyn Kelly reacted to a controversy involving political commentator Steven Crowder. A feud between Crowder and The Daily Wire erupted last week after he published a video revealing the intricacies of the company’s reported $50 million offer.

On Monday, Kelly delved into the details of Crowder’s beef. First, she explained how Crowder might have felt signing a contract that was allegedly bogged down by production costs and other potential penalties for demonetization. 

Kelly said Crowder’s emotion was authentic during his now-infamous 30-minute video. She noted that Crowder didn’t name who he was referring to in the video but that it came out later when the Daily Wire published a rebuttal.

“People have to realize Crowder is huge, he has almost seven million followers on YouTube,” said Kelly. “He was demonetized by YouTube but he’s still making a ton of money because he’s so popular. To get him would be a real coup for anybody.” 

Last week, Daily Wire Co-CEO Jeremy Boreing confirmed the offer to Crowder in his own video. Boreing shared that he was disappointed by Crowder’s response and shared his regret that the incident became publicly debated. 

“Crowder says whatever the hell he wants to say, and he couldn’t care less if you’re offended,” Kelly said. “He’s not for everybody; you couldn’t certainly pick him up and put him on CNN.” 

The Daily Wire’s contract called for Crowder to produce the shows, hire the staff, and penalize him for any shows that were pulled off the internet for any number of violating community guidelines. 

“I hate this whole thing; it’s ugly, I don’t think any of this should be out in the public,” added podcast Dave Smith who joined the “Megyn Kelly Show.”
