New York Times Reporters Encourage Readers to Walk Digital Picket Line

0

On Wednesday, at least two New York Times reporters encouraged readers to take a break from the paper during the unionized worker’s strike.

Amanda Hess and Maggie Astor tweeted readers should walk the “digital picket line” Thursday; that’s when 1000 unionized Times staff will go on strike for 24 hours.

According to Fox News Digital, Amanda Hess, the second vice president for the NewsGuild of New York. Maggie Astor is a New York Times reporter and union member.

“We’re asking readers to not engage in any @nytimes platforms tomorrow and stand with us on the digital picket line! Read local news. Listen to public radio. Make something from a cookbook. Break your Wordle streak,” Hess tweeted.

Earlier this week, discussions between the New York Times and the union reportedly hit a boiling point on several issues, most notably wage increases.

“Barring a breakthrough, @nytimes staff will walk out from midnight to 11:59 pm Thursday, Dec. 8. We’re asking readers to stand with us on the digital picket line and not visit any NYT platforms tomorrow. Read local news. Make something from a cookbook. Break your Wordle streak,” Astor said.

Blaze TV Hosts Slam The Washington Post Canceling ‘Shark Week’

0

The Discovery Channel’s iconic “Shark Week” is under attack by the Washington Post. This week, the paper published an exposé on the educational program, citing a lack of diversity and an overabundance of guys named “Mike.”

On Wednesday, Blaze Media personalities Steve Burguiere aka Stu and Pat Gray discussed the story on “The Glenn Beck Show.”

“In addition to not talking about anything but sharks during Shark Week, they’re not devoting any time to blowfish,” Gray said jokingly.

The article stated that white men named Mike were overrepresented and that researchers spoke disparagingly about sharks.

“This is completely immaterial,” said Burguiere. “Is the coverage good? Do they talk about sharks?”

A tweet from the Washington Post early Tuesday stated that white shark researchers are emphasizing negative messages about the predatory fish.

“The woman doing the study apparently loved sharks as a kid and watched Shark Week religiously and then she did this study that found that lots of the scientists that talk about the sharks are white,” said Gray.

Gray added that the Washington Post exhausted tons of hours researching “Shark Week.” He said reporters scrutinized 32 years of episodes dating back to 1988 and determined that “Shark Week” failed to deliver quality messaging about shark preservation.

Bomani Jones: Nothing I’ve Said Has Spread Like Deion Sanders Comments On CNN

0

Deion Sanders has been on everyone’s mind over the course of the last week. Even people outside of the sports world are interested in Coach Prime moving from the HBCU Jackson State to the bigger and better-funded University of Colorado. CNN brought Bomani Jones on to discuss the topin on Tuesday’s edition of CNN This Morning.

During the appearance, Jones said he did not blame Deion for taking the Colorado job, in fact, he says he may have done the same thing. He did take Sanders to task though for claiming that God told him to go to Jackson State and then he left after 3 years. Bomani Jones called the Hall of Famer “the monorail salesman from The Simpsons” for selling a dream he never intended to deliver on.

Jones admits that he has been shocked by both the reaction to and popularity of the clip.

“The only thing in my career that I can think of that has gone as viral as this Deion thing has, is the Donald Sterling thing in 2014,” he told guest Howard Bryant on the latest episode of his ESPN podcast, The Right Time.

He noted that at the time of the recording, the video had over 2.7 million views on Twitter. That was just on the official CNN account. It could be considerably more as people post the video elsewhere on their own.

According to Bomani Jones, anyone that watched the segment in full would have heard him clearly state that Sanders going from Jackson to Boulder does not make him a sellout. However, he knows that not everyone watched the segment in full, most probably just watched the two-minute Twitter clip.

Bryant added that there are a lot of people that probably saw it at the gym or on TV at an airport with no sound. Jones acknowledged that was true and it doesn’t help that the phrase “Sellout?” was written on the screen. Still, Jones characterized some of the blowback on social media as wild.

“Not just the bots, but a significant number of people who watched that clip have been like ‘the white man put you on TV to tear another black man down,’” he told Bryant. “I’m sitting there, Howard, and I’m like ‘Don’t you see these white people on this stage pushing back on me? Do you see Don Lemon pushing back on me?’.”

Bomani Jones is a graduate of the Atlanta-based HBCU Clark Atlanta University. Both of his parents are professors at HBCUs. He acknowledged that he is “of that world” and that did shape some earlier critiques and requests he had for Deion Sanders as Jackson State’s head coach.

“I was fairly poignant and strident in the criticism,” he said. “I have no problem acknowledging this, but it was always in the name of Black folks and this Black institution that I think has done so much not just for Black people, but honestly for America. The response was ‘why can’t he go get his money?’ but somehow I’m the one doing the work for the white man?”

Former NFL Network Reporter Kim Jones Joining Newsday

0

Former NFL Network reporter Kim Jones has joined Newsday as the publication’s new New York Giants beat writer.

Jones worked at NFL Network for a decade after spending seven years working as the Yankees clubhouse reporter for YES Network. She also has previously written for the Newark Star-Ledge and Centre Daily Times.

“I’m grateful and excited to join the great staff at Newsday,” Jones said. “I’ve always been a writer at heart. While the names have changed — Michael Strahan and Dan Campbell won’t be in the locker room this time around — I’m so happy to have another opportunity to cover the Giants, this time for Newsday.”

She replaces Tom Rock, who became an NFL columnist for Newsday after working as the paper’s beat reporter since 2008.

“Kim brings a lot of expertise as a reporter and her institutional knowledge regarding the Giants is exceptionally deep,” Rock said. “She’ll fit seamlessly into Newsday’s coverage while bringing a fresh perspective to the way we cover the Giants. I’m glad she is on our team. This is going to be fun.”

Fox News Guest Says Network is ‘Trafficking In Hate’ On Hot Mic

Barstool Sports podcast host Francis Ellis has been a guest on Fox News, appearing several times with Jesse Watters on the network.

During an episode of Barstool Rundown, which debuted Tuesday, Ellis had harsh criticism for the network and some of its hosts. The audio has since been removed from the episode.

In audio transcribed by Mediaite, Ellis said the network had offered him a role doing “man on the street” style interviews, which he turned down.

“They have asked me to do man on the street for them, and I had to say no,” Ellis allegedly said. “They wanted me to take like this subway bingo card down into the subway and be like — ask random strangers, ‘Have you seen a rat, fill out your bingo card thing?’ And it was like so stupid.”

Ellis mentioned he wasn’t at his best during his most recent appearance with Watters, but said his wife tried to bring him back to earth about working with the network and Watters.

“Look, I got home. I talked my wife about it cause I was disappointed in myself and she was like, ‘Let’s be honest, like, do you want to be working with these f—ing people?’ She was like, ‘I watched the rest of his show — he’s a f—ing joke’.

He added that Tucker Carlson “comes on and just screams”, saying “it’s so weird” before saying Fox News is “just trafficking in hate”.

Nick Kayal: Legacy Media No Longer Have Journalistic Integrity

0

Many in conservative media circles are lamenting the lack of coverage of the “Twitter Files” unearthed by Elon Musk and given to journalist Matt Taibbi, and 1210 WPHT morning host Nick Kayal says the “legacy media” has died, due to their “lack of journalistic integrity”.

“There was once a time the media was feared,” Kayal said. “Real journalists with a sole mission of fact-finding, breaking news, and giving the people the truth. The media and journalism is supposed to do what citizens don’t have access to. With tough, pertinent questions needing to be asked, the media is supposed to ask those questions to those who they cover, for those who can’t ask those questions to hose who should be held accountable to their constituents, customers, and fans.”

“We now have a media that slants part to the left. They put counter-agenda stories out there and put their slanted left-wing stories in a negative light on the backburner. Or they’ll just omit them entirely. The New York Times, Washington Post, CNN, ABC, NBC, or CBS, they’re all bought and paid for and they’re no longer true media reporters with journalistic integrity. Instead, they’re all a bunch of slappies that are all controlled by the government and big tech.”

Netflix CEO: ‘We’re Not Anti-Sports, We’re Just Pro-Profit’

0

Netflix will not join Apple and Amazon in the rush to gobble up live sports rights. Co-CEO Ted Sarandos addressed the streaming giant’s disinterest at the UBS Global Technology, Media & Telecom Conference on Wednesday.

He characterized expensive media rights as a “loss leader” in the streaming world and noted that Netflix doesn’t view sports as a necessity to grow.

“We’re not anti-sports,” Sarandos said according to Deadline. “We’re just pro-profit. We have yet to figure out how to do it. But I’m very confident we can get twice as big as we are without sports.”

Questions about the interest the company has in carrying live sports have come up several times in the past. Sarandon made similar comments last year when asked about it.

Reed Hastings, Sarandos’s co-CEO at Netflix, has a slightly different view. In 2021, he indicated that Netflix could be interested in F1 rights someday thanks to the success of its documentary series Drive to Survive, but that would be a special case. Any league interested in doing business with Netflix, he said, would have to allow Netflix to control all of its content.

Ted Sarandos echoed that sentiment in his most recent comments. He said that the company does not see a way to profit by “renting big-league sports.”

Greg Kelly Takes Issue With T.J. Holmes, Amy Robach ‘Enjoying Their Notoriety’

0

Good Morning America anchors T.J. Holmes and Amy Robach have caused quite the stir over their alleged infidelity with one another, and 77WABC host Greg Kelly said while what happens between them in their personal lives truly is a personal matter, they shouldn’t enjoy their newfound fame like they are.

“I thought, ‘Ok, they hooked up at work’,” Kelly said. “Unfortunately, it happens. I’ve heard of that happening. I’ve heard of people with too much time on their hands — that sit right next to each other for a long period of time — that sometimes hooking up happens. Even when they’re married. That’s regrettable. But it’s not for me to judge, it’s not for you to judge. I think it’s between those individuals, their spouses, and god.

“Yet, here’s why I decided to talk about it…but it was their actions when they went back on TV. They were giggling about it. And then they were finding innuendo when there was no innuendo. Stupid kinda crap. They were very much enjoying their notoriety. I take issue with that. I also take issue with what crummy broadcasters they are.”

Kelly concluded by mentioning he didn’t appreciate other media members backing the relationship, adding “in a shameless society, a little shame is good”.

Bobby Belt: ‘Pat McAfee Butchered The Name Shan and RJ’

0

Shan and RJ is a show that routinely finds itself in the media spotlight. They may be a Dallas show, but when Jerry and Stephen Jones routinely appear on your airwaves, you are going to draw attention from outside of the market.

On Tuesday, Pat McAfee played a clip of the hosts talking to Jerry Jones. McAfee threw to the clip introducing the show as “Shan, RJ, and Chop.” On Wednesday morning, the 105.3 The Fan’s morning show had some fun with the former Colts punter’s struggles.

“There’s a lot to unpack here,” newly added co-host Bobby Belt said after listening to McAfee and his crew take three unsuccessful cracks at naming the show.

“Reggie made a good point yesterday when I was talking to him about this,” Belt said. “Reggie was like ‘I think McAfee was going to the clip, saw three faces and didn’t know a third name, and so he’s like ‘well, that must be RJ and Chop.’”

Belt delighted in the idea that in McAfee’s mind, RJ Choppy goes by “Chop” on air and even pointed out that one of the producers said that RJ “looks like a Chop.”

Pat McAfee called the show “Shan, RJ, and Chop,” “Shana, RJ and Chop,” and “Shannon and RJ” on different occasions according to Belt. He didn’t think it was disrespectful. He just didn’t understand how McAfee got it so wrong so often.

“They butchered this three ways to the weekend. I have no idea. I mean, it clearly says on the graphics ‘Shan and RJ’.”
