WEEI Producer Begins Campaign To Get Greg Hill into Radio Hall of Fame

Greg Hill already has a Marconi, but that honor isn’t enough according to one of his producers.

Jackson, who hosts The Greg Hill Show’s after-show podcast, revealed on Monday that he is ready to make the case to the Radio Hall of Fame for the WEEI morning man to be included in next year’s induction ceremony.

He said that Hill treats the Marconi Award he won for Major Market Personality of the Year like it belongs to everyone. Hill credits not just the current cast he works with on WEEI, but partners from his days at active rocker WAAF as well, with helping him take home that award. Jackson wants to see Hill get an honor that is just for him.

“The Radio Hall of Fame would be very much Greg only, and I think he needs that solo recognition. Not for his ego, but for posterity and for his legend because he is legendary,” Jackson said. “He has been around for a long time in the Boston radio scene and raised a lot of money for charity and done a lot of good things and a lot of good radio.”

This year, the Radio Hall of Fame included a trio of WFAN legends in its induction class with found Jeff Smulyan, Christopher “Mad Dog” Russo and Suzyn Waldman all being honored.

Jackson says he is taking it upon himself to make the case for Greg Hill getting in, but he encouraged listeners to find out what they can do and then do it. While he made it clear that Hill deserves the honor, Jackson acknowledged that the recognition would make him feel pretty good too.

“That would be cool because then I would be working for a Radio Hall-of-Famer and in the circle of trust of a Radio Hall-of-Famer perhaps.”

Greg Olsen Believes He and Kevin Burkhardt Can Handle Games ‘On Any Stage’

Kevin Burkhardt and Greg Olsen are on tap to call Super Bowl LVII in February, and Olsen told Front Office Sports he has the confidence to announce the game with no hesitations.

“If you’re asking me, I think Kevin and I have shown that we can handle a game on any stage – on any day. We just did it on Thanksgiving. We’ll do it again around Christmas. And obviously throughout the [NFL] Playoffs,” said Olsen. “So whatever decision they make. Obviously, the bosses get paid a lot to make hard decisions. You have to obviously do what your bosses decide. We’ll cross that bridge when we get there.

“But as of now, I anticipate Kevin and I, the two of us, with Erin and Tom down on the sidelines, the four of us, broadcasting the Super Bowl in February in Arizona. Until I’m told otherwise, that’s how we’re proceeding.”

Olsen also told FOS he has negotiated a new contract with FOX Sports, but declined to share details. He is slated to be replaced on the top broadcast crew once Tom Brady ends his playing career. Brady will then begin a 10-year, $375 million contract to serve as the network’s top NFL game analyst and brand ambassador.

GE Purchases Every Ad In The New York Times

For the first time in its history, only one advertiser is shown in today’s edition of The New York Times.

GE included more than 22 full-page color ads in the paper of record’s print edition Tuesday. The company is being split into three separate publicly traded companies, GE HealthCare, GE Aerospace, and GE Vernova, an energy division.

The first investor day, according to Sara Fischer of Axios, is scheduled for Thursday.

In addition to all of the newspaper’s advertising, GE also purchased much of the real estate on the outlet’s website, and also secured space in the company’s popular The Daily podcast.

Fischer’s report says GE spent “seven-figures” in the campaign.

Facebook Threatens To Remove News From Platform If Journalism Bill Passes

Facebook has threatened to remove all news from it’s social media platform if a journalism bill is passed by Congress.

The legislative branch is considering the Journalism Competition and Preservation Act, which would give antitrust exemptions to allow media companies to “collectively negotiate with online content distributors” like social media companies.

In a statement, the social media platform revealed its stance is against the passage of the bill.

“If Congress passes an ill-considered journalism bill as part of national security legislation, we will be forced to consider removing news from our platform altogether rather than submit to government-mandated negotiations that unfairly disregard any value we provide to news outlets through increased traffic and subscriptions,” the statement read.

“The Journalism Competition and Preservation Act fails to recognize the key fact: publishers and broadcasters put their content on our platform themselves because it benefits their bottom line – not the other way around,” the statement continued. “No company should be forced to pay for content users don’t want to see and that’s not a meaningful source of revenue. Put simply: the government creating a cartel-like entity which requires one private company to subsidize other private entities is a terrible precedent for all American businesses.

Dana Loesch: ‘I’ve Had Some Issues With Matt Taibbi in the Past’

Matt Taibbi and his profile have grown exponentially since last Friday’s revelation of the “Twitter Files”, released by Taibbi, that alleges the social media company colluded with the Biden Presidential Campaign to suppress negative stories about the now-President and his son, Hunter. Conservative radio host Dana Loesch said Taibbi’s about-face from his previous political positions is an interesting one, noting her past history with the journalist.

“I’ve had some issues with Matt Taibbi in the past,” Loesch said. “In fact, one of my first big Twitter fights was with Matt Taibbi. And it was on CNN, interestingly enough. The back and forth that I had with him — because he went along with a lot of the media stuff. It was about the Tea Party stuff. And he was saying ‘The Tea Party is racist, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera’ and we had this huge fight.

“And I think over the span of the last 10 years and he watched the left go further and further left, that it became evident to him that he could not follow. There was not a path that he could follow.”

Loesch supported Twitter releasing the files compiled by the company, and welcomed more transparency from the social media platform encouraged new owner by Elon Musk.

CNN Calls Report Chris Licht Hired Extra Security After Layoffs ‘Completely Fabricated’

Last week, CNN announced major cuts to its staff amid a reshuffling of the network under new CEO Chris Licht. Puck reported Licht hired extra security for his office following the layoffs, but CNN has pushed back on that reporting.

Puck claimed there is always security and guards at the offices of the news network, but “a heightened security presence” was present the day the layoffs were announced.

“Licht was mindful of how raw emotions were, and that a Jerry Maguire moment, or something worse, was not out of the question,” the report stated.

The Daily Mail went further in its reporting, saying “CNN CEO Chris Licht reportedly was forced to hire extra security to wait outside a conference room where he was working after gutting hundreds of the network’s staff in a recent round of layoffs.”

According to a statement given to Mediaite, CNN called the allegation “completely fabricated”.

St. Louis Cardinals Announcer Dan McLaughlin Charged With Third DWI

St. Louis Cardinals television play-by-play announcer Dan McLaughlin has been charged with DWI after being arrested on Sunday in Creve Coeur, Missouri.

According to a report from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, police received at least two phone calls from concerned drivers that a white BMW was driving erratically, with one caller saying it was driving into oncoming traffic.

It is the third time McLaughlin has been charged with DWI. He was charged with the offense twice within 13 months in 2010 and 2011.

Bally Sports Midwest and the released a joint statement Monday.

“We have been made aware that Dan McLaughlin was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated on Sunday night.. We are very disappointed to hear this, and are working to gather additional information before offering further comment.”

McLaughlin, 48, has served as the voice of the Cardinals for 24 years.

NBC News Audio Announces Changes, Liz Cole Oversees Division

Several changes are coming to NBC News Audio. According to Inside Radio, NBC News Studios President Liz Cole will now oversee NBC News Audio. The change spurred the retirement of Soraya Gage, who served as the VP and General Manager of NBC News Audio. 

“Liz, a masterful storyteller, already has enormous visibility into the podcast business,” he said. “Under both her and David Corvo, Dateline has propelled NBC News into the top five of all podcast publishers,” said NBC News President Noah Oppenheim. 

Cole serves as the Executive Producer of Dateline; she has been with the network since 2003. Cole is credited with developing and supervising many premium documentaries and series, including “The Thing About Pam.” 

Meanwhile, Gage’s run at NBC spanned three decades. In an internal memo, Noah Oppenheim hailed her career as “remarkable” and credited her with building the audio division from the ground up. 

Recently, NBC News promoted Senior VP of Global Digital News Catherine Kim promoted to Senior VP of NBC News Editorial overseeing all news gathering efforts across all digital and television. 

“We’ve been working thoughtfully to break down the walls between linear and digital as NBC News continues to evolve into a robust multi-platform news organization,” Oppenheim said.

Glenn Beck: Media Trying to Discredit Journalist Matt Taibbi

Blaze TV host and syndicated radio personality Glenn Beck believes the mainstream media is trying to discredit Matt Taibbi for his work in exposing the “Twitter Files” that purportedly show a collusive effort between the U.S. Government and Big Tech to censor the Hunter Biden laptop story in the months leading up to the 2020 presidential election. 

Beck said Monday that every cable news channel has mischaracterized Taibbi’s experience offering the public a skewed view of his professional background. 

“He (Taibbi) was a contributing editor to the Rolling Stone magazine and took down some things, but does that make you a journalist,” Beck quipped. 

Taibbi is a seasoned journalism professional. He’s worked as a freelance writer in Uzbekistan, Mongolia, Russia, and the United States, writing about everything from finance to sports. 

“I think journalists are actually less credible than bloggers,” added Beck. I mean, especially a Substack blogger like Glenn Greenwald and Bari Weiss and Taibbi, I think I’m going to run in that pack and not the others.” 

On Friday, Taibbi published a 37-tweet thread regarding information that Twitter allegedly suppressed regarding the Biden laptop story. 

“The story was something that was called a conspiracy for a long time,” said Beck. “They (Big Tech) were taking the Hunter Biden story and they were taking advice from the FBI and the people inside of Twitter were the ones who were torpedoing it with advice from the Biden campaign.”
