The Volume, FanDuel Partner For Live Events

SNAPS with Aaron and T-Bob of The Volume held a live event Thursday at Walk-Ons in Baton Rouge, with FanDuel serving as a partner for custom bets in the process.

Before the New Orleans Saints faced the Arizona Cardinals on Thursday Night Football, Aaron Murray and T-Bob Hebert recorded their podcast live from the establishment in front of nearly 200 fans in attendance.

While they hosted their podcast, fans in attendance were able to sign up for accounts with FanDuel and place bets custom made for those in attendance. In the SNAPS with Aaron and T-Bob Parlay, fans could place a wager on a four-leg parlay centered around the performance of the Saints and specific players Chris Olave, Alvin Kamara, and Tayson Hill. Unfortunately for fans in attendance, the parlay did not hit.

FanDuel also created contests for fans to win tickets to this weekend’s game between LSU and Ole Miss, which Murray and Hebert gave away at halftime.

“We’re always looking for new ways to deliver audiences to our partners at FanDuel,” said Colin Cowherd, founder of The Volume. “We’ve been doing same-game parlays for over a year where Volume hosts make custom bets and they’re featured at the top of the app. These live events are an extension of that. We’re bringing fans closer to the action and getting creative in the way we drive new customers to FanDuel. It was a great night for The Volume, FanDuel and our CFB show SNAPS, and we plan on doing more during football season.”

The Volume and FanDuel are currently planning more live events throughout the year.

95.3 WDAE Resets Weekday Lineup

Changes are afoot at 95.3 WDAE in Tampa. After it was announced on social media that the station’s afternoon show Beckles and Recher was done, local listeners wondered who would take over the drive time slot. What they learned is that this wasn’t a solo move but rather a WDAE makeover.

Late Friday afternoon, WDAE announced that starting on Monday all dayparts would look and sound different. The station’s longtime morning show Ronnie & TKras would move to afternoons, the midday team of Pat & Aaron would shift to mornings, Jay Recher who previously led afternoons with Ian Beckles would guide a new midday show alongside Zac Blobner titled ‘Jay and Z‘, and The Dan Patrick Show would occupy the 9a-12p slot. The Tampa station also announced Colin Cowherd’s show would air weeknights from 7p-10p.

The one host not retained through the station’s lineup changes was Ian Beckles. The former drive time host was appreciative of listeners in his statement, and told those interested in his future not to worry.

“I want to let all my fans know that I was just informed that I will no longer be working at iHeart,” Beckles said in a video posted to Instagram. “It’s all good. Don’t worry for me. Don’t cry for me. I’ll be fine. I was there for over twenty-something years, and I was blessed to be there for even one year. Beckles & Recher will no longer be with us. They’ll have a different lineup there on 95.3, but don’t cry any tears for me. I’ll be just fine. I’ll land on my feet. I’ll be doing podcasts for a long time.”

Monday October 24th will be a new day for WDAE. Though the timeslots will be different, local listeners will still hear many of the same voices they’ve trusted and enjoyed listening to.

Nick Wright: Dan Patrick Told Me I Could Accept His Marconi Award

Nick Wright made one of his regular appearances on The Dan Patrick Show on Friday morning. He revealed that he was in the crowd on Wednesday night for the Marconi Awards, where Patrick took home the trophy for Network/Syndicated Personality of the Year. Wright said he was shocked that Patrick wasn’t at the New York ceremony and even more shocked by a text message he received.

“Dan sent me an odd text and said ‘you can give my speech if I win,'” he told the audience.

Patrick did win the award, but Wright admits he was not prepared to actually give the speech. He saw DL Hughley was nominated for the same award and figured Patrick wasn’t actually going to win. So when the winner was announced, Wright wasn’t prepared.

“Dan, hand to God, I rushed the stage! And right before I got there, some dopey radio exec was like ‘I’m here to accept on Dan Patrick’s behalf’ and I was like ‘That’s not what Dan would want! He would want me to go up there.'”

As a consolation prize, Patrick gave Wright the chance to deliver the speech the audience would have heard that night.

“Listen, Dan would love to be here, howeber he was unable to make it due to a previous family obligation,” Wright said. “He wanted me to convey to you guys that he is honored and touched by this and he’s a little miffed his radio bosses didn’t even tell him about the event or else he might have shown up to it.”

Wright then revealed to Patrick and the audience that someone had sent him the audio Patrick’s bosses submitted for consideration. It included two interview clips and a short commentary. The interviews featured Scottie Pippen and Russell Wilson breaking news on the show. The commentary featured Dan Patrick referring to Nick Right as “Dick Wrong”

“I know you sent me a watch a few months back,” Wright said. “I expect another package and I expect that package to be the Marconi!”

Keith Olbermann Mocks Lara Logan After Newsmax Ouster

Newsmax has cut ties with contributor Lara Logan after she made strange assertations during an interview with Eric Bolling during The Balance earlier this week. Podcaster Keith Olbermann poked fun at Logan’s comments during his show Friday.

“Congrats on this hat trick, Lara,” Olbermann said. “Four years ago, she was the Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent for CBS News. Then she made up the Benghazi story, and they fired her. She drifted to Sinclair, then to Fox (News), where she made up the ANTIFA instructional manual story, and the palace of bricks story. Then this March she ended up on Newsmax as a regular on the show of Eric Bolling, who was also fired by Fox, and now they’ve fired her because…well…here’s part one of why the fired her.”

He then played the clip of Logan saying she uncovered a plan from a “global cabal” at the United Nations to allow 100 million illegal immigrants into the country to replace “patriots” in America, saying she was told about the plan by someone who had the documentation to prove it.

“The global cabal wrote that down for you, did they Lara? As an aside, Lara Logan is an immigrant. Now she would have survived that portion of the ditzy great replacement delusion. It is Newsmax, after all,” Olbermann said before playing a clip of Logan saying an open border is “Satan’s way of taking over the world” and the world’s leaders “dine on the blood of children”.

“She was the lead guest on Eric Bolling’s show. You know who’s in the ‘B’ slot on the show? Bill O’Reilly,” Olbermann said as he chuckled, insinuating O’Reilly is a lesser guest.

Kenny Mayne Joins Peacock’s Exclusive Notre Dame Game

Last year, Notre Dame played its first-ever Peacock-exclusive game. The Fighting Irish got a scare but ended up beating lowly Toledo 32-29. This year, fans hope things are much more comfortable when they stream Notre Dame’s second Peacock exclusive, a home tilt against UNLV.

The Rebels will get equal representation on the telecast. Former UNLV quarterback and SportsCenter anchor Kenny Mayne has been added as a guest analyst. He and current Rams running back Kyren Williams, who played his college ball in South Bend, will join Kathryn Tappen for the pre-game, halftime, and post-game shows.

Mayne is no stranger to Peacock. He previously co-hosted Tokyo Tonight for the streaming service with Cari Champion during the 2021 Summer Olympics.

Kenny Mayne is the latest alum of a Notre Dame opponent to spend time on the telecast. NBC has welcomed former players from Notre Dame and their opponent each week throughout the college football season.

Coverage of the Rebels and Fighting Irish begins at 2 Eastern time on Saturday afternoon. The regular NBC broadcast booth of Jac Collinsworth and Jason Garrett will be on the call of the game, which kicks off at 2:30 exclusively on Peacock.

Elon Musk Plans To Slash Twitter’s Workforce By 75%

With the expected takeover of Twitter by billionaire Elon Musk, expansive job cuts are expected.

According to a report from The Washington Post, Musk told potential investors he plans to gut the company’s workforce to the tune of 75%.

However, documents obtained by The Post reveal the company already plans to slash 25% of the current staff by the end of next year, hoping to trim nearly $800 million from the payroll in the process.

Human Resource staffers have repeatedly told workers mass layoffs were not on the horizon, but internal documents show plans to cut staff and eliminate costs related to infrastructure were already underway before Musk made his offer to wholly purchase the social media platform.

After offering to buy the company, Musk reneged his offer in July. After a lawsuit was filed by the company, Musk said he would agreed to the original terms of his proposal.

Tyler Polumbus Joining Altitude Sports Radio

Tyler Polumbus is joining Altitude Sports Radio for a new show with existing midday hosts Scott Hastings and Josh Dover for “P.H.D.“.

“We are so very excited to add Tyler to our new midday P.H.D. show” said KSE Radio’s SVP & GM Dave Fleck. “He’s more than just a former player, he’s a respected member of the community who’s excelled both on the field and in the broadcast booth. Having Tyler as part of Altitude Sports Radio, allows us to reconfigure our daily lineup, while adding a great voice to the station.”

P.H.D. will air weekdays from 12:00-3:00 PM, beginning Monday, October 24th.

During a recent interview with Barrett Sports Media, Polumbus said his love for the area would keep him in the Denver market.

“This has been a dream. I’m a hometown kid, I grew up here, played at The University of Colorado and for the Broncos, along with a few other teams. I’ve gotten to spend the last five or six years in this market. I don’t have any intentions of leaving. I plan on being a name that’s in this market for a long time. Just continuing to pursue whatever options might be there.”

Polumbus is well-known to the Denver audience. A Denver-area native, he played football collegiately for Colorado before embarking on an eight-year NFL career playing for the Denver Broncos, among others. He was a member of the Broncos during its victory in Super Bowl 50. He then served as the radio sideline reporter for Colorado football broadcasts. Polumbus exited from Denver’s 104.3 The Fan in September after a three-year run with the station.

The addition of Polumbus will slightly alter Altitude Sports Radio’s lineup. The station’s morning show — Moser, Lombardi, & Kane — will remain unchanged, airing from 7:00-10:00 AM. Chris Dempsey will now host Dempsey & Company from 10:00 AM-12:00 PM each day. He’ll be joined by Matt McChesney on Mondays and Fridays and Alex Rajaniemi on Tuesday through Thursday. The station’s afternoon show of Nate Kreckman and Andy Lindahl will see their show shortened from four hours to three, now airing from 3:00-6:00 PM.

Friday Abernethy Named General Manager of NBC Sports Washington

Monumental Sports & Entertainment has named Friday Abernethy the new General Manager for NBC Sports Washington.

Abernethy comes to the regional sports network after serving as the Executive Vice President of Content Distribution and Partnerships with Univision, where she worked for seven years. She will assume the role most recently held by Jackie Bradford, who had been in charge of the network since 2020. Bradford will continue as the President and General Manager of NBC4 in Washington, in addition to serving in the same role at Telemundo.

Abernethy viewed the opportunity at NBC Sports Washington as an exciting one, noting the fact the network is owned by the franchises it will broadcast is a positive.

“I think by us having full ownership of it, it allows us to [ask], ‘How can we go deeper with the teams and bring more of that personal element to the fans?’,” she told The Washington Post.

MSE completed its purchase of the network in September. Abernethy will now be in charge of the network as it undergoes a rebrand after the current Washington Capitals and Washington Wizards seasons. MSE owns and operates both franchises. The company also owns the WNBA’s Washington Mystics, the NBA G-League’s Capital City Go-Go. They also own and operate Capital One Arena.

Candace Owens Threatens Family of George Floyd With Lawsuit

After it announced a $250 million lawsuit against Kanye West for his recent comments, the family of George Floyd is now facing potential litigation from conservative commenter Candace Owens.

Owens, who has staunchly supported West after his recent anti-Semitic comments, threatened Floyd’s family with a lawsuit during her podcast Wednesday, claiming it was an opportunity to combat unnecessary legal actions.

“I’m also sick of frivolous lawsuits,” Owens said. “You know, if this is actually considered credible, if you can sue somebody because you’re feeling ’emotionally distressed’ because of them going out and saying things, well then I think that I have grounds to sue George Floyd’s estate.”

She then claimed the lawsuit brought forth by Floyd’s family is “little PR stunt” which should give her grounds to sue the family

“It’s causing me a ton of distress. I feel angry and I feel upset with the fact that I am fighting for Black America to be freed from the lies while these people are fighting to keep them in the dark! This is unacceptable. I’m really — I’m serious. I’m going to go out and I’m going to ask lawyers ‘If this is legitimate, can I sue George Floyd’s family?’ Because I should be able to.”

Owens has come under fire for her support of West, with other pundits like Joe Walsh, Steve Malzberg, and Cenk Uygur all admonishing her. She has been adamant that anyone who believes West’s comments have been anti-Semitic aren’t “honest people”. Ben Shapiro, co-founder of The Daily Wire — which employs Owens — recently commented West’s statements are “clearly anti-Semitic and disturbing“.

Thursday, October 20th saw the 27th ever “Sports Equinox” with all four major sports playing games on the same day. That’s your average day for Skyview Networks, which has seen a record number of broadcasts recently.

In the past three weeks, Skyview Networks has facilitated 710 games between NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, and college football.
