Jay Glazer: Panthers Asked Me To Ask Sean Payton About Being Next Coach

Football teams, both college and pro, always work back channels to gauge interest when they have a coaching vacancy. That is what the Carolina Panthers are doing, and apparently, one of those back channels the franchise is focused on is the FOX Sports payroll.

Jay Glazer appeared on FOX Sports Radio Thursday night and told Jason Smith that the team reached out to him to see if Sean Payton would be interested in being the team’s next head coach.

“What Carolina is trying to do right now is they’re trying to load up on all these draft picks to make their job agreeable and approachable to a new head coach,” Glazer said. “They already reached out to me. ‘Hey, would Sean Payton be interested?’ I don’t see Sean going there, no, I don’t. A guy like Sean, they do want to go big next year, they don’t want a defensive coach, they don’t want a college coach, who can they get offensively? They’d love a guy like Sean.”

According to Glazer, he advised the team to take any offer from a team willing to give up significant draft compensation for any current Carolina players. He said when coaches look at openings, many of them are more interested in what they can do with draft picks than they are in talent selected to fit another coach’s playbook.

Sean Payton is in his first season at FOX Sports. He was a hot commodity amongst networks last season when he left the New Orleans Saints. Many have speculated that he is already eager to get back on an NFL sideline.

Glazer said he did talk to the coach about the conversation he had with the Carolina Panthers. Fans won’t be happy with what the FOX NFL Insider learned.

“He ain’t going there. So Carolina Panther fan, Sean Payton is not going to be your next head coach! But they literally did reach out to me to ask Sean about his interest. Then I asked Sean and I told him the interest. Carolina Panthers, Sean Payton will not be your next head coach!”

FOX Nation has released a six-part mock trial that provides a look at the unresolved legal situation of President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter. Featuring prosecuting attorney Doug Burns and defense attorney Randy Zelin. 

In October of 2020, The New York Post reported that Hunter Biden introduced his father, then-Vice President Joe Biden, to a top executive at a Ukrainian energy firm less than a year before the elder Biden pressured government officials in Ukraine into firing a prosecutor who was investigating the company. 

There’s been much speculation about the future of the Hunter Biden case. Federal prosecutors are reportedly looking into charges but there’s been no definitive answer from the Department of Justice headed by Merrick Garland who serves at the behest of President Joe Biden. 

Two months ago, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg told Joe Rogan that the FBI asked Facebook to restrict the story about Hunter Biden. 

“I think it was five or seven days when it was basically being determined whether it was false,” Zuckerberg said. “The distribution on Facebook was decreased, but people were still allowed to share it. So, you could still share it. You could still consume it.”

The Daily Wire Film Examines Media Coverage of George Floyd

The recently released Daily Wire documentary called “The Greatest Lie Ever Sold” highlights some of the major oversights from the mainstream media’s coverage of George Floyd’s death and the subsequent riots that erupted in the summer of 2020. 

Daily Wire co-founder and radio host Ben Shapiro said Thursday that attempts to censor information about Floyd other than what most people believe to be true, is the reason Candace Owens made the documentary. 

“Some of the things that you’re not supposed to talk about regarding George Floyd’s death is the simple fact that a different angle shows that Derek Chauvin’s knee is actually on the back of George Floyd not on the back of George Floyd’s neck,” he said. 

Shapiro said that evidence surfaced during the trial in testimony from witnesses for the prosecution. 

“Truth is of very little consequence when you’re trying to establish a narrative of the supposed racism of the United States more broadly,” Shapiro said.

On Wednesday, NPR reported that the family of George Floyd  will file a $250 million lawsuit against Ye, the rapper formerly known as Kanye West, following comments he made about Floyd’s death on the podcast “Drink Champs.”

The rapper suggested that Floyd’s cause of death may not have been a knee on the neck but rather a fatal overdose. Ye was seen with Owens at the premiere of “The Greatest Lie Ever Sold.” 

Glenn Beck: FBI Is Weaponized After Raid of Ex-ABC News Producer

There’s limited media coverage of the missing former ABC News producer whose home was reportedly raided by the FBI back in April. 

On Thursday, nationally syndicated radio host Glenn Beck said that in his 45 years of broadcasting, he’s never encountered a story as alarming as that of James Meek. 

According to Rolling Stone, Meeks’ Arlington, Virginia apartment was raided and Friends told the outlet they haven’t seen him since. 

“The madness has got to stop!” Beck exclaimed. “We must end it on Nov. 8th. I don’t watch mainstream media anymore, so I don’t know what everybody else is saying. I don’t listen to other talk radio shows, I don’t listen to anything. So, I don’t know what warnings you are getting elsewhere.” 

Beck said he believes that the FBI has been weaponized by the Biden administration and warned they may be targeting American journalists. 

“If you’re not hearing an urgent warning about the loss of your country, our Bill of Rights, your freedom, and your economic freedom, you’re listening to the wrong people.” 

Beck said the Meek story is “fuzzy” and added that Rolling Stone magazine has attempted to follow up with reactions from some of Meeks’ former co-workers who have declined to comment. 

The Emmy award-winning producer resigned from the network abruptly months ago. 

According to the New York Post, the magazine cited “sources familiar with the matter” as saying that federal agents found classified information on Meek’s laptop computer.

If you don’t know who this fictional tv character is, stop here and watch WKRP in Cincinnati. You may be limited to YouTube highlights because the series has had musical licensing issues and is hard to find. But it is worth it. We can learn much from him about radio sales, both how to and how not to succeed.

Tarlek was the most famous radio sales executive who never lived. Unless we are talking about Clarke Brown, a radio AE in the ’70s at Atlanta’s WQXI. Tarlek was based on Clarke, the real salesman who loved the imitation. The role of Herb Tarlek was offered to Rod McCary first, but he turned it down. Frank Bonner accepted it, landed Herb Tarlek in 1978, and later directed Who’s the Boss, Newhart, and Evening Shade episodes.

He was also married five times before passing away on June 21, 2021 at 79. On WKRP (which stood for WCRAP) in Cincinnati, Tarlek was the sales manager. Because the station had poor ratings, Tarlek couldn’t sell to the top advertisers in town, so instead, he went after winners like Shady Hills Rest Home, Gone With the Wind Estates, and Ferryman Funeral Homes. Herb never gave up. He just kept trying to find anybody who would say yes. 

Tarlek taught us a few things about how to collect money from a client. He blackmailed them with gossip he had overheard during one of his many long martini-fueled lunches or with legal action if they didn’t do what he wanted.

Tarlek is still popular, though, thanks to his LinkedIn profile. And his taste in loud clothing. The white belt and shoes, polyester suits, and loud ties were purchased at a golf pro shop by Tarlek because they were the only ones who didn’t follow the anti-pollution laws of polyester. Bonner liked the belts so much that he kept a few of them. Tarlek thought clothes made the man and clients would trust him more because of his attire. 

Tarlek liked luxury cars and worked at side hustles to afford the finer things in life. He sold life insurance, ran a numbers racket, and took client kickbacks. He once said they didn’t call him Mr. Kickback for nothing. 

Tarlek also had a heart of gold, though. During one episode, he discovered that a diet pill he had sold advertising time for had resulted in a teenager being hospitalized. Tarlek went on air to set the record straight and announced that the station would no longer run its ads.

What a guy. I hope this sheds more light on the legend of Herb Tarlek, the most famous radio salesperson who never lived.

Jay Wright To Sign With CBS For College Basketball Season

Jay Wright, the retired coach of Villanova will fill his schedule with some television work this season.

The two-time NCAA Champion head coach will be in studio for CBS and Turner Sports for the Final Four. He is also set to call some regular season games and work in-studio for CBS according to The New York Post.

CBS and Turner Sports declined to comment.

According to the report, Wright was a hot commodity for the college basketball season and was sought by ESPN and FOX Sports but chose CBS because of their rights to March Madness and the Final Four.

Dan Patrick: I’m Having as Much Fun as I’ve Ever Had Before

Dan Patrick was contemplative and reflective on the show following his third Marconi Award win.

On Thursday’s Dan Patrick Show, the longtime host took a minute to reflect on his show’s win as Network/Syndicated Personality of the Year.  

“How much longer do I get a chance to do this?” Patrick began to say. “It starts to hit you. This is a rare, rare, rare opportunity to be able to do this. And it’s not lost on me what we have. What we’ve built.”

Patrick went on to talk about how hosts his age, with his tenure on the air, are a rare breed nothing personalities like Howard Stern.

“It’s rare to have people that are going to be in their mid-60s to late-60s – and I plan on continuing to do it – but longevity, probably Jim Rome is the only that comes close. In sports.”

“It’s hard to keep everybody together, continue to have fun, have the loyalty we have with all of our affiliates around the country, ” Patrick noted. “When we started with 20 radio stations and now it’s nearly 400. I didn’t do it alone. We didn’t do it alone. That’s what hits me. I’m having as much fun as I’ve ever had before and we have fun every single day… I’m very fortunate that I have this platform and I don’t take it for granted. I certainly don’t take this audience for granted.”

Mike Tirico Hits 200 NFL Regular-Season Game Milestone

Mike Tirico may be the new voice of NBC’s Sunday Night Football, but he is certainly not new to calling NFL games.

During the most recent Sunday Night Football telecast, Tirico serves as the television play-by-play voice for his 200th NFL regular season game when the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Dallas Cowboys.

It’s a notable milestone achieve by the Sports Emmy award-winner. NBC also did the research and found some notable tidbits from his first 200 NFL regular-season broadcasts. For instance, the team he has broadcast the most in that stretch is the New Orleans Saints (23), followed by the Steelers (20), Bears (20) and Ravens (20). This Sunday he will broadcast the Steelers-Dolphins game with Cris Collinsworth, breaking the three-way tie for second.

In his 200 regular-season games, Tirico has handled NFL play-by-play in 38 stadiums.

HBO To Debut Documentary ‘SHAQ’ In November

HBO Sports is rolling out a documentary about the former NBA World Champion and current Inside the NBA analyst, Shaquille O’Neal.

The documentary, entitled SHAQ, is a four-part series detailing the life and career of O’Neal and will debut on Wednesday November 23.

The series will feature interviews with O’Neal, Penny Hardaway, Dwyane Wade, Dennis Scott, Brian Shaw, Derek Fisher and Rick Fox; his head coaches Phil Jackson and Pat Riley; and former Los Angeles Lakers General Manager Jerry West. It will also encompass interviews with several of his family members.

“We kept this documentary real from the start, and I do feel like it is the most honest look into my life and career up until this point,” said O’Neal. “This process allowed me to reflect publicly in a way I haven’t before, and I’m so proud of the work everyone has done to put it all together.”

Chris Cuomo, Newsnation Staffers Unhappy With Kanye West Interview

Chris Cuomo was apparently unhappy after his interview with Kanye West. It may have generated plenty of headlines, but it caused some pushback inside of Newsnation.

An unnamed source told The New York Post that Cuomo was less than pleased that West refused to come to the Newsnation studio Monday night. Instead, West appeared on a video call from the backseat of a car.

“Chris thought it was at least going to be well-lit,” the source said of the video call. “He wouldn’t have accepted that at CNN.”

Adding to the frustration for Chris Cuomo was the fact that West was willing to go in studio for FOX News and Tucker Carlson last week.

Staffers for other Newsnation shows were not happy about the way the network prioritized the interview. The network pushed other hosts to publicize West’s anti-Semitic comments to draw more attention to the network. The source tells The Post that both Dan Abrams and Ashleigh Banfield were told to devote lengthy segments to the interview on their shows.

It wasn’t just staffers either. Guests booked for the two shows were not happy with the orders of Newsnation brass.

“People didn’t want to appear on the [other two] shows following Chris Cuomo’s interview because they didn’t want to talk about anti-Semitism and to give Kanye more attention,” the source said.
